Debate over Bush has Jets in running BY GARY MYERS DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/story/410465p-347277c.html
Hey I can see anything happening.... When you do think of a Parcells, Belichick system they always utilized the TE and their TE's were never a slouch. Of course who wouldn't want Williams, but there are probably two other teams who pick before the Jets who might want him too. And then there is D'Brick..... It all depends on how high they really value him. Hey Anything can and probably will happen
I agree, the Texans would be nuts. No need for smokescreens though. Who are the going to fool? They pick #1. If they 100% wanted Bush, they can get the deal done now.. noone to fool.
Why would they be crazy? Domanick Davis is the best player on their team, and they just gave him a long term contract.
Do the Texans need a RB? NO! Why would they draft him? They knew he was going to be the 1st pick in the draft, but they signed Domanick Davis to a long term deal...Why would you do that if you wanted Bush? Do the Saints need a RB? No, they already have a good one in Deuce. They need help on the offensive line, and maybe there secondary Do the Titans need a RB? Maybe, but they could use a QB even more... That leaves options open and I tell you right now.. I doubt very seriously if the Jets are going to pick a QB with the first pick. Shoot I rather wait till next year and go for Brady Quinn anyway.... Now that would be a move worth making almost anything happen....
I would be pretty pissed off if we drafted this guy... I think he will be a good player, but it is a luxury we can not afford at this point in the new regime...
I'm usually an advocate of saying that you cannot draft a TE very high in the draft. I went crazy a few years ago when Cleveland took Kellen Winslow Jr with the 6 or 7th pick. He was not worth it. This year with Vernon Davis it is different though. He is the best receiving player in the draft. And he is a good blocker to boot. If the Jets think they need a receiving threat to open up the offense, this may be the route they go. Also, a few weeks ago I dreamed that I drafted Marcedes Lewis for the Jets with our 2nd round pick and now evidently the Jets are interested in him! Coincidence, I THINK NOT!
I am with you there, workouts and all we just do not need a TE, so many other holes to fill, I would rather get one of the top 6 at the begining of round 3 if we are serious about a TE
I'm getting sick and tired of hearing about Belicheck's drafting history like that has any impact on our upcoming draft. I don't care that he drafted a TE in the first twice and has never drafted a Qb in the first. You gotta be pretty stupid to believe that has any correlation to what our FO is thinking about this draft.. If you want a TE in this draft there will be good ones available in the 2nd & 3rd rounds, you can't take Davis at 4..
I can get you some aspirin if you like.... You may not like the comparison but all coaches who eventually get head coaching jobs at least in the beginning use the philossophy from which they came from, regardless if it is not the most successful.
-yeah me and my friend were debating this. we have WAY too many holes to take a TE with our first pick and it would look ridiculous. -but if we were able to get their 22nd pick in exchange for moving down to 6 and grabbing Vernon Davis. -And at this point anyone wanting D'Brick, Mario or any of the 3 Qb's would be furious. (i want mario or a qb if we pick at 4 myself) -BUT, we could have a playmaker on Offense (i know needs work on his blocking, but that can be coached) But if you want D'Brick think of this, we could then draft Max Jean Gilles at 22 (if any of you think he'll be there in the 2nd rd your dead wrong.) And Nick Mangold at 29. Mangold replaces Mawae, and MJG could compete instantly. and in all reality kendall will be gone soon so its not like he'd be a wasted pick. -OK, so you wanted a Defensive pick. We could take a LB or DB at 22 (or Gabe Watson) then go offense at 29 OR EVEN VICE VERSA -my main point is, this could be VERY good for us if u think of the endless possibilities of having the 22nd, 29th, and 35th pick. plus a explosive presence the jets have lacked on offense. -and im not saying this is what i think we should do. but we could do ALOT of things if this happened. but then again possibly passing on Mario or the QB's could be a HUGE mistake but then again hindsight is 20/20 vision. -i'll be happy with almost any scenario, nothing can really be said until game day though.
Belicheck didn't have success with all his first round TEs, did he? Davis would add a different dimension to the offense, however, with all the holes on the team, I think the Jets should go for an impact position like LT, QB, RB, DE. Someone like Dominque Byrd would be better value later in the draft.
Maybe he didn't but it gives you a glimpse into his thought process. It is obvious they put more of a premium on the Defensive Line than Offensive Line. Not to say he does not value it's importance, but considering that all they do is block, but DO NOT create turnovers or force opponents to game plan for them it's hard justifying the amount it would cost to sign him.... It is obvious they look for TE's who can stretch the field.. That is all I'm saying
Yes they use the same philosophy but that in no way means that they pick the same positions in the same round as there mentor.. There are alot of variables that come into play. Parcells who was another mentor to Mangini drafted Bledsoe with his very first pick with NE, do you think that means we are taking a Qb with Manginis first pick? We are gonna draft what is best for the NY JETS in the situation they are in regardless of what Belicheck has drafted in NE..
