Truth of the matter is our first two picks should both end up being very solid choices but for me one worry lies in our second rounder. I feel the jets will try to get a QB but that is WAY WAY to high to be selecting one of the second tier QB's.
Regarding Clemens, per Ron Jaworski, "His stock is moving up, up, up. It would not surprise me if he's a Tom Brady-type quarterback. I see Clemens as a second-round draft pick." http://www.ronjaworski.com/free_jaws_bites.php
http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2006/clemens_kellen Per the site, "Clemons is a very smart and fundamentally sound quarterback with a very quick and compact release and when he strides into his throws, he can make all the throws with very good zip. Clemons shows impressive ability to consistently step up and make big plays -- mostly with his arm, but occasionally with feet -- when it matters most; even vs. heavy pressure/blitzes. For Clemons to become the starter he is capable of being, he needs to stride into every throw he makes and do a better job of not forcing throws when he feels he has to make the big play. Overall, Clemons will probably get drafted much lower than anticipated, but he has the ability to become a very good NFL starter. Aside from Matt Leinart, Clemons might be the only other quarterback who is more ready mentally to step into the NFL and contribute early in his career. " The site graded him a 6.3 = 2nd round. He is graded as a very good starting player recovering from an injury and will need to get healthy before he can play up to his physical ability. Also per the site he had very good athletic ability and college production. He doesn’t meet minimum height requirements (6.2), but meets weight and speed requirements. Note they spelled his name wrong (Clemons) through all of it!
Interestingly whilst Clemens is a 6.3, Leinart is only a 6.4, Young a 5.9 and Cutler a 5.8. Where did you get that list. I am not big on Young but he has got to be higher then those guys same for Cutler.
The list by ScotsJet is off of the nfl.com site: http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2006 This link takes you to the list of all positions.
see the thing about clemens had he not got hurt and finished the season playing at the high level he was. he would probably be a 1st rd qb in this draft. so getting him in the later rounds. he could be steal because he actaully has franchise qb potential. unlike whitehurst who is severely overrated .
I know where this information came from and who wrote it. It was written by Russ Lande and it is in his 2006 draftbook GMjr. I have gotten his book every year it has been out and it is the most detailed breakdown of every player I have ever seen. He is a pro scout (or was) and his grading system is the one he developed. He does not tell you anything about stats the player had in high school (Mel) or college. He just grades the player and breaks down every aspect of his game. Go to his website GMjr.com and check it out.
If the Jets are looking at QB's later in the draft, their list should be: 1. Croyle 2. Jacobs 3. Clements 4. Shockley 5. Vick They are all fairly decent and could turn into something in the nfl
Pat Kirwan on Clemens I was curious about the sudden rise in interest in quarterback Kellen Clemens the past two weeks and, although he will not be a first-round selection, he might have moved into the second round on some boards. One QB coach I respect told me Clemens simply has the best combination of arm strength and mechanics in the draft http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/9392296
What is it about this guy that people like? Poor arm, Poor accuracy, missed most of last year? To me, Clemens has Jay Fiedler written all over him. If we're not concerned with arm strength, than take Leinart. I don't understand where they're going here. Leinart's not a value pick, and we shouldn't pick someone that high at QB, but if the intention is to get a smart, accurate, but soft-armed QB take the best guy. -X-
From everything I've heard/read about Clemens(which is all I can base my opinion on; I'm not going to talk out of my ass when I only saw a negligible amount of Oregon football last year), he does not have a poor arm at all. Kirwan and mayock of NFL network say he has a good, strong arm with a quick release.Mayock said today on Mike and the Mad Dog that Clemens "sticks every throw",which Mayock loves. Jaworski thinks Clemens is special and could be a star. His teammmates love him and he's a great vocal leader. If the Jets took a chance on him I'd be cool with it,although I'm a little nervous about Oregon QBs(Harrington,Akili).
