The Vikings are a mess, what if we offer a 1st for KOC? He fucked up big time with Darnold but the GM just got canned for it so you think he would have to take the bulk of the blame. Is there any way we can steal KOC away in the sunrise of his young career? Young, offensive mind from the right coaching tree, I would absolutely give 16 for KOC and let him draft his QB this year or next year. Plus he can't turn us down unless he has a no trade clause
What, you can literally force somebody to move teams as a coach without his consent? I can't see them trying their hardest in that situation.
Or just wait a year and don’t give up anything. Assuming he wouldn’t laugh in his old buddy’s face for even thinking he’d consider the job.
That's fine too, just figured if there is blood in the water over there why not try now. I think he's a really good coach, just spitballing in January.
Then give them 16 and something else, I am just saying if there is in fact some smoke over there light that shit on fire.
I would think that the smoke over there is that they're pinning the blame on the now-former GM for the lack of playoff success and the Sam Darnold fiasco. Unless there's something that I haven't seen (and there very well may be), I wouldn't be surprised to see O'Connell come out of this shake up with more power than he does now.
That's an interesting point. If the Vikings have another bad year and he gets free, I'd look at him for 2027
This is possible as well, it's January and I bored. Definitely would keep an eye on it though, wishful thinking obviously.
For the record, I'd be totally on board for O'Connell coming to the Jets. Checks the main boxes that I think we all want from a HC. If he could be had for a 1st round pick, the Jets would be out of their minds for not jumping on that immediately. If he could be had for, as you said, #16 and something else, the Jets should pursue that as well.
We’ll be firing Glenn next year and if JJ McCarthy doesn’t improve leaps and bounds I suspect they’ll be firing KOC. At that point just sign him for free. With all due respect there were/are numerous coaches we could take right now without giving up a pick if we had the integrity to fire Glenn and do the right thing.
Glenn isn’t going anywhere - they would have fired him already and gotten a head start on the Haubaugh/Tomlin sweepstakes. I think Woody honestly is more worried about his reputation and how buffoonish it looks to be working on coach #4 in a span of 15 months. So he kept Glenn for now while almost 1/3 of the rest of the league brought in new coaches and will make the switch this coming year with presumably less openings. As I’ve written before this could turn into a blessing but there is a little more pain to come before that. As in the likelihood of Glenn starting 0-4 then getting the boot or something along those lines. Then that really gives Woody a head start on a decent coach…
