I guess having Brett Favre back you means a lot to the NFL.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The NFL reinstated suspended Green Bay Packers wide receiver Koren Robinson on Wednesday, his agent said.

"He received notification today," agent Alvin Keels said in a telephone interview. "He was excited to be given another chance. He's just ready to get back and help the Packers win the Super Bowl."

Robinson has been working out in Arizona and did not immediately return a message seeking comment. Keels said he expects his client to fly to Green Bay on Wednesday night.

"He's in the best shape of his life," Keels said.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson said the league informed them Robinson has been reinstated, effective Thursday.

"It's been a year since we've seen Koren, so our first step is to have him return to Green Bay," Thompson said in a statement. "The Packers will request a roster exemption, during which time we would see where Koren is at in terms of football shape."

The Packers have a full 53-man roster, but cornerback/kick returner Will Blackmon has not been placed on injured reserve despite breaking his right foot. The team initially said he would be out for the season, but has not made a move since.

The Packers are on their bye week and in the midst of five days off.

Wednesday was the first day Robinson was eligible to return from his one-year suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He had petitioned for reinstatement to commissioner Roger Goodell and met with the commissioner earlier in the week.

Robinson's suspension came in the wake of an incident in August 2006 while he was playing for the Minnesota Vikings. Police said Robinson led them on a car chase at speeds over 100 mph, and his blood-alcohol content was found to be 0.11 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08. The Vikings cut Robinson, and he signed a two-year deal with the Packers in September 2006.

But he played in only four games before he was suspended. He made seven receptions for 89 yards and averaged 21 yards on 12 kickoff returns.

In February, Robinson was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading down to a charge of fleeing police. Robinson also was sentenced to three months in jail for violating probation on a separate drunken-driving case in Kirkland, Wash., last year.

"We are aware how difficult this past year has been for Koren, but the Packers are grateful for the progress he's made, as evidenced by this reinstatement," Thompson said.

Robinson faces a lifetime ban if he violates the league's substance abuse policy again.
