Here is everything that a head coach needs, especially when potentially on the "hot seat". I never thought Rex would be gone, but your players want you to stay, that truly says where your future needs to be. Great coach who players love playing for. I hope he is here for a LONG time:

That is really encouraging. I like Rex, I hope he stays.

Rex is the most charismatic head coach ive seen in sports and i see a lot of sports. Plus he is a great defensive mind. He will be here for sure next season i have no doubt about it.

Rex really has come a long way.

His handling of the media certainly has helped him this year.

I did not think I wanted him to continue coaching prior to this season but up until this point, my expectations have been exceeded.

If this continues for the season, say they wind up 9-7, I'd think he deserves an extension.

I think he deserves an extension even if he finishes 8-8.

No one, and I mean no one, expected us to be where we are right now. Going 8-8 would be crazy and going anything better than that would be insane. The guy has done wonders for this organization and this year has really shown that. We need to extend this guy. He's our best chance for years to come

You don't fire a HC half way through a rebuild. Had this been the case I would have been very surprised .
Idzek seems very switched on and the chemistry that seems to exist between him and Rex is good to see, a healthy respect.

he'll get the extension after the season assuming we don't collapse. I would be shocked if anything happens in season even if we do the unthinkable and win the division.

The fact that he had developed that young front, seen Harrison develop, has upgraded his LB corp, and that defense will just keep getting better as they add more pieces and gain more experience. You can't take the architect of that away. I think Marty has a lot of upside as the OC as the team starts to focus on getting some better skill position players.

Lot of upside for this young team and I think a lot of guys still really would love to play in NY if Rex is there.

None of us want to see him coaching Tampa Bay next year.

What really stood out the most in this article is that apparently other players around the league would love to play for him. That is HUGE. Especially going into next off-season with a ton of money to sign some quality free agents.

five years at least, announced the day after the end of the 2013-4 season, probably when and if the Jets get eliminated from the postseason

Rex has his flaws, as we all know, but I can't think of anyone else I would want to run the Jets into the future. If he can keep Marty by his side to run the offense, Rex should be set for awhile.

Imagine him with that secondary. And being in the same division as his brother

It's time to accept the fact that he is a damned good coach, and we need continuity with him and MM as we go forward and retool this team.
Does he have room for growth..damned right, all coaches do, but he is getting better and better.
Oh wait, some people will start arguing again that he does not know how to pick offensive talent, to which I say, may be, but so what..BFD,.drafting and bringing in a talent is not his job. It's Idzick, and based on what he has done so far....he is head and shoulders better than past GMs
We have a good leadership team right now....let's not fuck it up Woody.

He doesn't want to coach that "slap-dick" team.
