I haven't seen much discussion about this, but was wondering. . . Do you think Lamont is regretting the move to Oakland? Since he has left CMart has been injured and Oakland is terrible. Then add his injury and he may very well be out of a Job next year.
Looking back on it now, he probally does regret his decision. But Oakland did show him the money that the Jets were not able to match at the time.
He wanted the money and the chance to start. Both of which he deserved. HE couldn't wait another year and so he went to Oakland with the foolish hope that he'd turn the franchise around. His loss.
LaMont Jordan is due a $4.75 million roster bonus this offseason. Prior to his injury, the Raiders used Jordan as a starter, but mixed in plenty of Justin Fargas, Zack Crockett, and ReShard Lee. The Oakland Tribune suggests the current staff likes Fargas so much that Jordan could be cut. Oakland would absorb a $4.2 million cap hit to do this, however, so they'd only save about $1.5 million, including his $1 million base salary. Source: Oakland Tribune
I never thought Jordan was an every down back... he's best suited for screens, 3rd downs and was a good change of pace when Curtin needed a rest
I just had this same discussion with a coworker. I think he is better than anyone in our backfield but on the other hand he is getting paid.
Lamont would have been great. It just happened for the Jets to be year where teams needed running backs, and they didn't want to match the offer the Raiders did, because we had Curtis. It happened that way with Coles, and look who is a Jet again.
He's averaged 3.8 per carry, behind arguably the worst OLine in football over the last 2 years. He put up 1500+ yards of total offense in 14 games last year. If he gets cut, we should bring him back in a heartbeat.
I am not sure I would agree with that. He's coming off an injury plagued season, and I am not certain he is the type of player that Mangini is going to want here. Wasn't he running the year before without having learned all the plays in the playbook? I remember there being an article where he was talking about not being fully prepared. Maybe it was the size of the playbook, but it could be his diligence in studying, which seems to be a high priority in Mangini guys.
I preface this post by saying I've always been a huge Lamont fan. He got the short end of the stick here in NY under Herm, who, for some reason, had an extreme hard-on for Jordan. Even when he was averaging 5.5 yards per carry, Herm steadfastly refused to insert him, so much so that Herm got into a heated sideline argument over the insertion of Jordan one Sunday. God forbid we should run anyone but Martin, who, at the time, was close to a personal career rushing record and needed the numbers, the game be damned. I don't blame Jordan one bit for taking the job in Oakland. He wasn't appreciated out here in NY and the dollar offer far exceeded anything we would have paid him. But I'm afraid his career will finish out there as well. I just wonder how things might have been if we could have had Lamont Jordan and Leon Washington on the field at the same time.
If he gets cut, which I still think is iffy, he'll have a half dozen suitors trying to get him to sign a reasonable deal. Whether the Jets want to be in that gaggle or can compete assuming they do is an open question. Jordan left New York feeling short-changed by the Jet's; whether he'd be happier here or somewhere else in his next incarnation is an open question. I will prognosticate that KC's not going to talk to him and he wouldn't listen to anything they had to say anyway.
Thanks for that trip down memory lane... IF Lamont gets bounced outta Oaktown, should he want to come back, I don't see why not. He's better than anybody we have on the roster now. Those injuries? Hell, didn't we give Chad another shot after his injuries? Lamont comes back and the Faders pay most of the freight, how can we lose on that? I'd like to see what Lamont can do in THIS system, behind a young, developing OLine. Can he be any worse than Blaylock or Barlow?
