First off, I have to say that I love the board. I've been a member for a couple years, and although I rarely post, I check the board everyday. It's where I get all my news and although nobody here probably knows me, I feel like I know many of the regular posters well. As far as most of the moves made, I really like what Tangini has done so far. I think they handled the Abe situation perfectly, as well as the chad/ramsey situation. But I think Mangini made a big mistake with Mawae. Sure, he was a loose cannon of sorts, but his cap figure was negligible when you consider the type of player that he was. If Mangini is that insecure about his ability to control players, then I have serious doubts about his ability to run the team well. In this day and age, a head coach has to have personal skills, and the ability to control players who might not see eye to eye with him on everything. Mawae was the best offensive lineman this team has seen in a long time. He did not have an overly large contract. There was little to no reason he shouldn't be on the team next year. I feel like sometimes people on this board get used to an idea if it is talked about enough, and that that is what happened with Mawae. 12 months ago everyone on this board would have crucified someone who suggested getting cutting Mawae, but if it gets talked about by Cimini or Leberfeld enough, people start to accept it. He should still be on the team and instead of debating whether Mangold will be there at 29 we could be using the pick for another need, and still have a pro-bowl center. Oh well, hopefully Tangini will redeem themselves elsewhere (like I feel they might). Thanks for listening to my rambling. Jeremy
Why keep an over the hill club house lawyer? The man was done last year and is coming off a tough injury. Time to move on.
agreed it hard to rebuild with a 35 ye old center anchor in ur line. atleast a guy like runyan has 2-3 solid years left and is good with teaching young guys.
Mawae's big mouth was a problem. There has been speculation that he was one of the "two" guys that threw Penny under the bus. Also, he is a big man in the NFLPA. That gives what he says a lot of credibility, especially to young kids coming into the league. Given that we are trying to get younger, it's too risky for the new regime to handle. Besides, he is near the end of his career, and we can replace him in the long-term. I really liked Mawae, and I was disappointed to see him released, but things happen. This is a business. So far, with all of the moves this staff has made so far, I have no reason to believe yet that they aren't doing the best job for the club possible.
Possibly Mangini formed an opinion on Mawae years ago... Treat everyone with respect on your way up because you never know who you will meet on the way down Who knows, sometimes it is just time to move on and re-energize your career
Next to nothing? He would have cost 4.5M on the salary cap? We saved 1.1M by cutting him. Also, it appears Mawae had a little bit of a big mouth and was too yappy for the new regime. I don't blame them.
Who the heck knows. Maybe after losing to the Patriots one day Mawae may have said something to Mangini which he has never forgotten. I know its a reach and I have nothing to proove it, but stranger stuff has happened. I have to respect Mangini's decision. He clearly has a plan. He clearly thinks things through. And, as said over and ond over, our team will not be fixed in 1 year. This will work out; I have full faith.
I loved Mawae for all the years he was a Jet, and didn't like how this went down at the end, but he's not going to be an answer at center due to his declining ability (although Runyan isn't much different in that category) and I think he's a little too full of himself to be part of a rebuilding effort. I guess I could be wrong and justifying, but it's not like we really know all of what went on between KM and the Jets this offseason.
By the time we will again will be able to compete at the highest level KM would have been burnt toast anyway so I cannot understand what some are complaining about KM being cut?. Also, EM sent a very powerful message to EVERY NYJ player with the cutting of KM which will only pay back benefits as the seasons go by.
Yep that is also correct so you can say he also was a non championship player that played for the NYJs
