I just received an email from Chris Johnson that was sent to Season Ticket Holders. Posting it below. Looks like his presser is around the same topics. --------------------- Dear XXXX We hope you and your family are safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. While it has been a difficult year for all of us, both on and off the field, I want to thank you for your passion and loyalty as we begin the new year. Last night, I informed Adam Gase he will no longer serve as our Head Coach. While stability in our organization – especially in leadership positions – is one of our priorities, we believe it is best for our team to move forward with a new Head Coach. We knew there was a lot of work that needed to be done when Adam first joined us in 2019. While our strong finish last season was encouraging, we were unable to sustain that improvement and the progress that we all expected during the 2020 season. The search for our Head Coach will begin immediately. We are looking for someone who is a great communicator, who can lead and develop our young team, and assemble a talented coaching staff. They do not need to have a dedicated background in one phase of the game. Most importantly, this person will be a partner with all of us to further develop a successful and winning culture. Our philosophy is to build this team by drafting, developing and re-signing our own players, while supplementing where needed, through free agency to achieve sustainable success on the field. Historically, the most successful teams are the ones who can identify young talent and not try and buy their foundations. Joe and his team have done a tremendous job of not only adding young talent to this roster, but also accumulating draft capital and favorably managing the salary cap. The personnel department has been assured that they will continue to have the proper resources necessary to field a winning team. We have really missed having you at MetLife Stadium and we want to let you know that we are continuing to work with the State of New Jersey on the safe return of fans for next season. We will continue to provide updates as soon as they become available and are looking forward to being together again, returning to our gameday traditions. On behalf of the entire organization, thank you for your continued commitment to the New York Jets. Regards, Christopher Johnson Chairman & CEO
This new approach is similar to what the Ravens use, Harbaugh has both a DC and OC to run both sides of the ball but he dictates what he wants done during the game. I do like the possibility of changing the organizational structure of HC answering to GM.
Sounds more and more like they'll try to look at an all-encompassing college coach and try to right what they perceive as a wrong in not hiring rule. These type of trigger words (CEO, whole team, etc.) tell me Fitzgerald and Matt Campbell just shot to the top of the list.
