FINS TO BREAK BANK FOR PACE?

A year after the Dolphins paid (wasted) $20 million in guaranteed money on linebacker Joey Porter, they might be getting ready to write a big check to another linebacker.

According to Alex Marvex of FOXSports.com, the Fins could be signing Cardinals linebacker Calvin Pace to "the same kind of mega-deal" that was received a year ago by Porter and by Adalius Thomas of the Patriots.

Such a move would immediately call into question Porter's future with the team. He's due to earn a base salary of $4.8 million in 2008.

It also might prompt 2006 NFL defensive player of the year Jason Taylor to blow his stack. There were rumblings a year ago that Taylor was not pleased that he didn't get an adjustment after Porter received his windfall. If the Fins do it again, that might be the last straw for Taylor.

And if Gholston doesn't fall to 6? Then we still have no pass rusher.

    This isn't a good thing.

  7. Counting on a player to be there in the draft when we arent piccking 1st overall is not a good idea. You're just setting yourself up for dissapointment. Not to mention it's not a good way to run a franchise

Great point. I think what is happening is the Jets will confidently be able to go after BPA at #6 and then look at getting an offensive tackle in the second round.

I'm not loving the idea of giving Pace Adalius Thomas type money, but I wish he weren't in our division.

We need both of them, Byran Thomas is not a starting LB in the NFL, if last year didnt shot you that I dont know what will. We need a big athletic OLB (Calvin Pace), and a speed pass rushing LB (Vernon Gholston).

They get Pace and Chris LONG then I hope we fortify our O-Line because we have to play these guys twice a year.

Same here, I dont want him here if he's asking that type of money. It just sucks he's signing with a division rival.

Fine with me, this is a nice enough draft with 3-4 DE/OLB prospects.........

They still don't have a QB If we get Faneca and another O lineman, our Line will be better than last year.Conversely if we get Gholston or Groves our DL will also improve.

It looks like the AFC East will very soon be the best division in the NFL again.

If Gholston doesn't fall to us at 6 then the Jets best bet would be to trade down, accumulate picks, and select Groves.

I agree. If we can't move though, we can make a little bit of a reach for Merling or go BPA if someone falls to us and nab Cliff Avril in the 2nd. If McFadden's there, if we end up with Faneca and someone at RT to open up holes for him, that would be outstanding.

I'm wary of Pace. One good year and now megabucks? No thanks. Take Colvin or someone else who isn't after billions of dollars, thanks.

Yep and if the Pats lose both Samuel and Moss, the gap between them and the rest of the division is shrinking by the day.
