I never wanted him in the 1st place but next year he should be better

Vernon is a bust like DSlob. Good players show glimpses of possibly developing into a better player and he is slow, can't tackle, takes bad angles. Look at Ellis and Abraham in their first years. You saw plenty of flashes that they would be good players in their very first year. Vernon has shown absolutely nothing all year. Ugh, if only we drafted Mayo...

Close? He isn't playing horseshoes. So, if all things were equal we would have paid him 1.625 Million per tackle so far in his illustrious career.

If we had drafted Mayo he would've been a bum and Gholston would've been making 20 tackles on national TV against us. I'm convinced of it.

Gholston better figure it out. He has been cruising this season with a free pass, so far. I do not wanna label him a bum but he has warranted negative responses because of his play or lack of. Damn he looked slow trying to sack cutler that one play.

If we didn't take him I wonder how far he would have fallen before somebody did......more than a few spots is my guess. Maybe 15 or 20.

he did look slow, and had absolutly no concept of putting his hands up while rushing the passer. Even on the the few plays before hand he played slow and played very unmotivated.
This also falls on the coaching staff. The same thing happen to bryan thomas when he first got here, in the tannenbum and johnson era, and they witnessed a 1st rounder slack off.
They need to ride gholston, get him motivated, and work on his speed, agility, and technique when rushing. hes a rookie, they need to treat him like one...
he also has gotten very little playing time. this is the second time weve really seen him in consistantly on a few drives. hopefully the coaching staff will keep him in even after Harris come back.

We don't need him in there unless we have been eliminated. We are still trying to win.

he could've sacked Cutler at the 2 yard line if he just dove.

Mangini railroaded Vilma out of town and it looks like hes probably gonna do the same thing to Gholston. Utilize the guy to get his full potential and see the results.

Makes you sorta wish that we had traded down, far down, and grabbed a guy like Kenny Phillips who would have at least contributed in some capacity this season.

I dont know i was on the bandwagon of giving this guy time to develop and get comfortable in a new system in a new league.

But when the coach starts to show a little frustration its hard to keep that frame of mind. Thomas hasnt done shit in weeks and obviously the Ghost hasnt either. Im starting to ask myself the same question DON asked, just how much further would this guy have fallen if we, the Jets, dont take him at 6???

overpaid POS. how does a rookie who has made no impact at all, and possibly never will, make 6 mil a year. the league really needs to put a cap on how much rookie's can be paid like in the NBA

I'll be patient with Gholston until the middle of next season. If he doesn't pick it up by Week 4/5 of next season, he's an almost bust.

I think everyone has to admit it didn't work out and we blew a #6 pick, and move on. If by some miracle he plays well next spring/summer, keep him--if not, cut him. Draft in 2009 as though he is not even on the team.

As I think about this, I believe this ranks as the worst draft pick by the Jets of all time. Even Lam Jones had some productivity and so did Blair Thomas and Drob. It might actually rank as the worst transaction in the history of the franchise. I'm thinking the deal for Jolley may even have been worse as at least VG has made a couple tackles on special teams.

Mike T. swung and missed on this one but he's hit plenty out of the park so I'm happy.

We only had 32nd pick in the 1st round. What are you talking about?

^I would ask you the same question--we are really in two different dimensions--you sound like my wife.

I am referring to the fact that he was the sixth pick of the 2008 draft--did I lose contact with reality somehow?
