The question they asked today on CBS NFL Today was "who the best QB of the 3 from the 2009 draft is? --- Stafford, Sanchez or Freeman. Freeman is beginning to look better with a lot less experienced weapons to work with. The guy was drafted in 2009 & has led something like 5 4th quarter comebacks. There,.............................I said it.
I prefer Freeman, but do like all three. I think these three may be similar to the 2004 1st rounders of Manning, Rivers, and Roethlisberger in that all three will be quality starters.
What is the purpose of this thread? So Freeman becomes the best QB of the 2009 draft class. What do Jets fans do wack ourselves in the back with a belt buckle like the dude in Boardwalk Empire?
I loved Freeman's skillset coming in to the draft, but I thought (and still think) that Sanchez was the most NFL ready out of the bunch. This being the case, he makes the most sense for the Jets as they are ready to make a run NOW. Even if Freeman is better than Sanchez 3 years down the road, there's no guarantee that the Jets as a team would be ready to make an SB run.
Stafford I think fits the Cutler mold well by that when things go well, they go REALLY Well(Like the 4 TDs today). However when things go bad, he may be prone to continuing to run over the wall rather than avoid it. Freeman I didnt like too much in college because I felt he was too much of a project and that I wasn't sure how much of a leader he was. He has looked great thus far this year however his team has had a cake of a schedule....They lost to PIT and NO, the 2 "quality" teams they faced this year. Otherwise hes beaten ARI, STL, CLE, CAR, and CIN. Cincy might be a "good team" but at 2-5 we are really stretching there. 2 of the wins came at last second gasps too in STL and CIN. Not to try and take away from Freeman since the talent around him isnt too great but what I am saying is he doesnt have a signature win this year. Now if you beat the Falcons next week and look at least ok in doing so................ Sanchez has been on and off and does fit the aforementioned "When it rains, it pours" criteria I put Rodgers, Romo, Eli, Stafford and Cutler in. However he does have a playoff track record to fall up upon and did lead his team to a AFC Title game. Very eerily how similar Sanchez is following Joe Flacco's career road thus far....year 1 AFC Title game despite managing the game as rookies year 2 start off red hot then begin to cool off. I also think of the 3 QBs, Sanchez is most used to pressure with the media and would best fit in. Freeman comes off as a midwestern type of kid and would be best at a small place like Tampa Bay. Stafford and his injuries problems wouldent be a good fit here either, at least with Detroit the pressure is low to perform. You cannot say that about Mark Sanchez unlike those 2 other ones who have less pressure to perform.
I agree, postseason experience is invaluable so Im going with Sanchez, I think Stafford will be very good if he can stay upright. Though I am impressed with the play of Freeman
I was thinking the same thing today at work when the Bucs game was on. Freeman made a couple of beautiful throws and some very nice plays. I remember there was speculation on us grabbing Freeman in the draft that year. I was gonna hate back then, now he's looking like a hell of a QB. Granted his team is playing a cupcake schedule this year, but the throws this kid was making were just beautiful. Not a knock on Sanchez I love him as QB, can't really blame him for what happened today.
1. Stafford 2. Sanchez 3. Freeman Thats my ranking, and thats how they were drafted. Sanchez has had bad luck with all the drops from his receivers (surprisingly, Edwards has dropped one yet I think). Stafford has been unlucky with his injuries, but he has outplayed both QB in his limited showings. Lions are a totally different team without him.
It's hard to measure because Stafford has played against easier teams, and in a dome. All I know is that Stafford will get killed next week. He has yet to face a defense like the Jets'. Sanchez should rebound nicely.
Freeman is playing well and if we had him I would be saying he is better. I like Sanchez for this team. I don't know how Freeman would have performed for the Jets. Some guys cant handle New York and being under all the scrutiny. Freeman may be working with less but he also doesn't make the back page of New York City's newspapers every time he has a rough game.
Sanchez is under heavy pressure, Freeman is in a live free situation. If he fucks up he fucks up, but if Sanchez fucks up its WW3. Personally I don't care, whoever can get a Super Bowl is good enough.
I really like the way Freeman is playing. I wasn't completely opposed to drafting him; I just wanted a quarterback. He had the size, athleticism, arm strength, and work ethic to be a great quarterback. But in college, he never won, and he lacked great decision-making skills and accuracy. That's improved a little bit. The kid can make plays. He and Sanchez will always be intertwined since Freeman was taken with the 17th pick the Jets originally owned. I'm glad we have Sanchez, but it could very well turn out we never needed to trade up to get our franchise quarterback. But if Sanchez delivers on his promise, who cares what the other guys do? Kind of like the Eli/Ben/Rivers draft. The Giants love Manning, the Steelers love Roethlisberger (on the field), and the Chargers love Rivers. Who cares who the best one is, they're all very good quarterbacks. That could turn out to be the same with the 2009 class.
Stafford and Freeman don't have the disadvantage of having their plays called by Brian Schottenheimer. Sanchez definitely has the best line to protect him, best run game, and best all around weapons, but Stafford has Megatron which makes his life much easier in tough spots. I think all 3 are going to be good players.
