Important series against one of the two teams in front of the Mets. Nolasco (11-6, 3.91) versus Ollie (7-7, 4.12).
Ollie gets through it this time, but he doesn't look very good. I think I'll stop talking to myself now.
Not while Castro is out, that's for sure. Anyway, who is better who is around? There aren't too many decent catchers around.
unfortunately even if ollie is good the rest of the way at 60 pitchers through 3 we're probably going to see at least 3 innings of the bad bullpen
Happy 8:08 on 08/08/08. Edit: I started that post at 8:08! Edit again: and Ollie has an 8-pitch inning, of course.
Is the catching situation really that dire around the league? The guy has OPS'd .649, .662. and .647 the past 3 years and he's still a starter how? Can it be that tough to find a guy that can block some pitches with a decent arm who can OPS above the mid .600s?
Here's the list of catchers who have played at least 60 games who have a higher OPS than Schneider: Player Team P GP GS AVG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS SH SF OBP SLG OPS HBP B. I was at that game where Carter hit it out off Neil Allen in his first game as a Met. Nice to see the replay.
Ollie through 6 giving up 0 runs and 1 hit, but also 106 pitches. Does Manuel have the guts to send him out for the 7th?
Would another inning really make that much of a difference? The problem with sending him back out there is what do you do if he puts a couple guys on to start off the inning, then you've got to pull him anyway and you've got the horrible pen guys coming in with people on base.
Maybe part of why people don't talk about Rhodes as great is that in his entire 16-year career before this year he had an ERA below 3 exactly twice?
