Man this has got to be one of the focal points of the game. Yet I have heard nothing. Cant wait to see if Jenkins throws him around like a rag doll , like he has to some of the other centers facing him. But does anyone know if Mawae still got it. I am assuming he does if he stil startin on an undefeated team. Gonna be a war
Mawae's a strong dude but his upper body strength isn't all that impressive, I say Jenkins makes him his bitch in this matchup.
Mawae has looked good this season. Thank God for Mangold or dumping him would look like a horrible move right now. Either way, this is not gonna be easy for Jenkins but he'll still stop the Titans from running up the middle like he does to every team.
Mawae's been the anchor of that line, and that line is the number one reason, outside of Albert Haynesworth, that the Titans are undefeated. I don't expect there to be many instances, however, where Mawae is asked to drive block Jenkins on his own. Mawae will be pulling a lot on running downs, and he'll have help on passing downs. They'd be foolish to marginalize a great talent like Mawae by putting him in a no-win situation.
absolutely correct. Teams just don't expect one offensive lineman to handle a dominant nose-tackle all by himself. In fact, the nose-tackle's whole purpose is to be powerful enough and to be able to play with enough leverage to command AT LEAST a double team on every play. If your nose tackle isn't able to eat up AT LEAST 2 blocks, then you can't play the 3-4 effectively. (Which is why it is amazing that Mangini ever got 10 wins out of his team in 06 with Drob getting blown off the line on every play)
Isn't Mawae's biggest strength run blocking at the second level? I don't think that will help him against Jenkins.
Mawae has always struggled against the mammoth DT, one of the few guys that used to eat him up was Ted Washington, I look for Jenkins to have success against Mawae.
The line play on both sides will be the focus of this game. Mawae vs. Jenkins and Mangold vs. Haynesworth (even though Haynesworth will be lining up against Moore, I personally see the battle being one that Mangold will have to take on.)
Fisher is a great coach, so that's why you would expect Mawae to pull on several plays to get him away from Jenkins.
I don't believe they are going to ask Mawae to man up against Jenkins. That's why Johnson scares me in this game. I expect a lot of outside tosses and sweeps.
They haven't played a DT like Jenkins, and Mawae has never been one for massive DTs. What I'm worried about is their tackles...Roos and Stewart are two of the best young T's in the game. They can open up their offense by shutting down Ellis/Coleman/Pace/Thomas. Our 3-4 gives us the advantage of forcing the O-line to figure out who to block...but if Roos and Stewart shut down our outside game then it'll be easier for them to help Mawae with Jenkins inside.
On Offense, the curcial part will be picking up all their stunts. They are really great at running them especially between Vanden Bosh and Haynsworth.
Let him pull - Pace will be on the other side of the line waiting to fuck him up. This is going to be a great battle to watch in the trenches, I can't wait.
Hasn't played a DT like Jenkins, only practices against one like Haynesworth, arguably the only NT in the league better than Jenkins. There's also that theory out there that Mangold is better because he practices against Jenkins every day...
