He still hasn't done anything since he got busted for roids. He is a fraud IMO.

Merriman hasn't been the same player since he's been forced to play without steroids. Merriman isn't going to get lots of offers so he won't have much choice when/where he's playing next. I'm sure the Jets realized this also.

It would be tough to get him on the field but we're 2 for 2 in reviving Chargers throwaways so who knows

I don't see any issue with having a thread in this forum too. People will want to discuss the potential of him going to the Jets.

Personally I think it's a low risk high reward scenario to sign him up on the cheap (chargers already paid him). With 99 already looking like a transformer it would be nice to add to the OLB depth.

Why do people keep saying this? He was busted midway through 2006, then proceeded to have a great season in 2007 while roid free. It's fair to say he's done nothing since his injury in 08, but the steroids issue wasn't the defining moment.

I have no clue how healthy he can stay, but it would be very low risk to sign him for the rest of this season. Obviously no one is going to sign him past this year.

As soon as I heard the news about his eventual release, I thought to myself that he would be worth looking into for this team. Looking at all the facts though, I am not so sure anymore, but I will have faith in Rex and Tanny to do their due diligence in figuring out if the guy is truly shot or not. It isn't as much of a "no-brainer" as maybe I originally thought though only because of the injury history and also the fact that we do have several guys already rotating in and out of that OLB spot.

However, WSW does bring up a great point with JT. The guy is definitely playing injured so this could be an issue, and also, we can't forget that Pace is coming off surgery as well so he could experience some nagging stuff going forward. If Rex/Tanny work Merriman out and feel he can still play, I would have total faith in them making the decision to bring him in. They really have not given us any reason to doubt them when taking on these so called "gambles," which this would be.

I've thought he was done for years. And I still think he is. But at 26 years old, with some of the years he's had, do you take a look at him? Why not? Unless he's a bad guy or completely refuses to play special teams, he's at least worth looking at. Leave no stone unturned is the Tannenbaum way now.

There would be no risk at all looking at him. I wouldn't be mad if we didn't, but I could definitely see him coming in for a workout at some point.
