The guy responsible for the New York Jets players that will play a key factor in our Playoff run. Let's take a list... D'Brickashaw Ferguson (Possible Pro-Bowler next season) Nick Mangold (Two time Pro-Bowler, and top three Center in the NFL) Kellen Clemens (Alright, everybody gets one, right?) Darrelle Revis (Revis Christ, two time Pro-Bowler. Top three CB in the NFL) Leon Washington (The most dynamic player on our offense next to Brad Smith) David Harris (Pro-Bowl alternate, potential Pro-Bowler and the enforcer of the D) Mark Sanchez (Future franchise quarterback of this organization) Now, besides the players, three of the four coaches hired since Tannenbaum has been employed by the Jets organization have made the playoffs in their first season. Not only that, but Tanny is a cap guru, always finding ways to make the room for the players we need. Anybody remember the genius move with Brandon Moore in the off-season? Thank you Mr. Mike Tannenbaum!
I gotta give the guy credit for not letting Pete Kendall make him look like a chump. He may be aggressive on draft day by dumping off a lot of our picks but he finds some damn good players in return.
I thought about making a Tanny thread yesterday but couldn't be bothered... yeah the guy is building this team up very well! Props to him and our scouting department which I feel is very solid...
Tanny is an incredible GM. Don't forget the moves to steal Jenkins, beat out the Fins for Pace, securing this awesome line with Faneca, Woody, and T-Rich, getting Edwards at his lowest value, and moving up for Keller. His only real blunder so far has been the Ghost, but that's who the vast majority of us would've taken in that spot anyway.
He's assembled a very good roster and is a huge upgrade over Bradway. Tannenbaum basically revamped the entire roster given to him by Bradway and has made it much better. While it's true we haven't won more than 10 games since he became GM, this team is on the right track, and I have a lot of confidence with him as GM. As a 23 year old Mets, Jets, and Rangers fan, he's easily the best GM of any of those teams in my lifetime. Mike Florio and others bashed him last year for his spending spree going into 2008, but ALL of those guys were good signings. Woody and Faneca have contributed to giving us the best OL in football, Pace has been solid out year, and Tony Richardson is arguably one of the best blocking fullbacks in the game. Gholston was a terrible pick, but I think he's allowed one f-up. I am very happy to have this man as GM.
Just to put things in perspective, look at how much he's improved the team since 2006. He's completely revamped it and made it so much more talented. Check out this roster: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/2005.htm That's what he inherited!
According to various sources it was Eric Mangini that lobbied the hardest for the Ghost -- apparently the organization was fractured on whether to pick him or not and Mangini's vote tilted the scales... that's the rumor anyway -- it's been cited by several sources.
I think Tanny was suckered into getting Gholston because Mangini wanted him that badly. So even though Tanny drafted him, it's not his pick. But he has been very aggresive & I don't remember a Jets GM being this aggresive ever since I started to support the team. It feels very good that we have a GM/Head Coach tandem that will actually agree with each other and see things eye to eye. I am very happy we have good people running this team now.
I love how he's willing to take chances.... I think teams value draft picks a lil too much while i do believe you build your team through the draft, you gotta be aggressive in other aspects too!
I value the draft, but we had a better draft than a lot of teams last year with only 3 picks. A little lucky? Sure.
nice move bumping this on a day where we should all bow down to the greatness that is tanny. dude is working with final 8 and final 4 restrictions and GETTIN IT DONE. i mean what team has had anything near as successful of an offseason as the jets? i mean at this point we are going into the draft with our only need (assuming the taylor deal gets done before the draft) being depth. we can go BPA first round and get a pass rusher to develop in the second if that BPA isnt one. use the rest of the draft for OL/DL depth and we are good to go. i cant wait to see how he deals with all the expiring deals coming up though.
Seriously, he has worked wonders within the rules he was given. Imagine what else would be happening if he was just set free. Obviously Woody wants a winner and maybe wants to finish off the PSL process. It is a process you know.
oh if he had no restrictions and i was with another team i would be downright scared when his name shows up on caller ID. the guy is making corleone deals. i agree also that a lot of this is to try and get more buyers for PSL's. and from hearing people talk, its gotta be picking up somewhat. between the moves and the fact that they lowered both the ticket price and the psl price in a lot of sections, as well as the ability to spread the psl over 15 years, its not nearly as bad a deal as it was originally.
