After the JFM stupid passing the rougher the passer”s penalty, Saleh went ballistic and demanded the head official to come to him after a TO? Any idea what that was really about? Was he really complaining about the RTP? But reading his lips, it appeared he was talking about something else. Any idea?
He wanted an explanation for the roughing the passer. The explanation that was given wasn’t that JFM hit him late or that he launched himself at Mac. The reason behind the RTP was that JFM hit Mac too hard. The officiating was dogshit yesterday. The RTP was asinine because we’ve seen that NOT get called 100s of times. The Patriots only touchdown came on a blatant OPI. Berrios was blatantly held on the third down miss right before the missed field goal. Zuerlein was roughed on the missed FG too.
The penalty was stupid because you could tell JFM saw that he threw it and he stopped, and then launched into him trying to get a QB hit. If he would have just keep rushing and hit him it would have been fine. But he stopped, and then launched. It wasn't a bad call it was a mistake that should only happen to rookies.
Hmm interesting. Thanks. For me it was a clear RTP. I was just trying to figure out why Saleh was really arguing about.
I think Saleh was mad about two three things. 1. It completely changed the game eventually resulting in a 17 point swing. 2. The explanation that he hit him too hard was terrible. 3. It was an iffy play that is a no call most of the time. But, I think number one was the main point. It took all the life and energy out of the Jets turning a Jets rout into a very difficult game with all the momentum and energy on the side of the Pats.
The screwed up part is there was no reason to knock Mac out of the game because he was playing like dog shit. No excuse for a player being ignorant toward officials and the league crackdown on such QB hits.
It seems Saleh's argument was that JFM took only one step, did not hit helmet to helmet or use excessive force. And as per rules this is not RTP. Could he have stopped? Probably. Are the pass rushers being told to stop in this situation? Almost certainly not. They are probably encouraged to make to contact with the QB. That's why Saleh was incensed and why JFM is not being benched for a late hit. He did exactly what he was coached to do, which the CS believe was within the rules.
And shows that one play like that can change the game, would have been 17-3 at the half instead of 10-6. I have no doubt the D would have been fired up coming out for the 2nd half and it would have allowed the O to try and run the ball a little more.
But the fact is he stopped or at least paused and then hit the QB, he must have known it was a bloody mistake, it isn't the first RTP call he has had against him this season. It was stupid, more stupid than the previous one imo and that was bad enough.
I don't get blaming the refs here. We know the refs are extremely sensitive to RTP penalties. It's on the players and coaches to not even do things that are borderline RTP. If I go to a country where I don't like the laws and get arrested, it doesn't make sense for me to blame the laws. It's on me to know what I can and cannot do. My opinion on the laws is irrelevant. Yeah, sometimes the refs screw up and call ticky tacky stuff RTP. It doesn't matter, it's on the players to not even give the refs the chance to do that.
It was a bullshit call. The referees were terrible in that game. They need to get over themselves with roughing the passer in this league, its becoming a joke. Instead of an exciting play made on the field by top athletes, some fat part time officials stop the game and reverse the call. They are destroying the product. Nobody wants to watch that, even if your team benefits from it Let the players play and if someone is egregiously trying to hurt someone, then you give them a personal foul.
Better play negates bad calls. Fucking Jets should have came and scored on the next drive. Fucking Jets should be tired of getting punked by the pats. Was the call terrible? Yes it was but not an excuse for rolling over.
