Everybody is talking about how much kyle wilson will have to step up. Here's a newsflash---> Kyle Wilson will not be as good as Darrelle Revis. Its not possibile to be as good as the best that exists. He's a decent cover guy on the outside who was exposed when he had to cover slot (hardest position to play on the field). Yeah, he wasn't shutting them down over the slot, but even Revis doesn't do that over the slot. CBs have the sideline, and that gives them the freedom to bracket to the outside and know you only have on direction to worry about. With that said the underlying thing that will make the loss of Revis Christ a pallatable one is the return of the team to the 4-3 front with Coples-Ellis-Pouha-Wilk, Linebackers Thomas/Maybin, Harris/Scott, Davis/Pace, Then the secondary you know about. If you can't get pressure on the QB from this look when maybin, davis, and landry are factors....then i give up. I think 4-3 is the answer to the deterioration of our run-stop game. Gotta go back to putting the biggest bodies in the middle while still having rushers on the outside. Traditional 4-3 defense Rex. We don't have that shut-down corner anymore, but this is definitely the best way to counteract this loss. Now lets win some football games!
I'm not sure I want to see 4 Jet linebackers in at the same time anymore. It never seems to end well. What do we have to lose playing more 4/3 than 3/4? Its not like we were a elite defense up until now anyway.
can we play a 6-1? Cuz our LBs blow brown ass. Its time to see what Rex can do. If he's the defensive ENIUS everyone says he is, we'l be "ok". If we end up being terrible on D, hes a farce.
Rex needs to hit the lab and create some great schemes like he is known for. An having our 1st Round pick play more and do more.
Here's the problem the Jets have right now in a nutshell: they're transitioning from a 3-4 to a 4-3. The linebackers are mostly 3-4 guys, big and strong but not all that quick and nobody has sideline to sideline speed to sit in the middle. The run defense is weak because the Jets LB's are not capable of playing good run defense in a 3-4 at this point. They just can't set the edge on the weak side and they're getting run over out there. Harris is ok in the middle but Scott has lost a step. Pace is ok on the strongside but not much more than that. It's just not an optimal group of LB's for a 3-4 at this point. So the Jets are kind of stuck between fronts. They have decent 3-4 linemen across the board but the LB's are weak. They have a few decent 4-3 linemen but they have no pass-rushing RE and when you couple that with no pass rush from the LB's that's a weak front also. That's why the Jets are in trouble on defense right now. They just don't have a coherent set of personnel for the old front or the new one to come. They need a pass-rushing end and also a good OLB before they can make the switch. They might even be better off putting Harris outside and finding a sideline to sideline MLB.
I completely agree. I think the 4-3 would be great for this defense. Not only will it get Coples the playing time we have been waiting for, but it also will cut down on Scott's playing time. Without Revis we won't be able to cover for as long so we need to force the opposing qb to get rid of the ball more quickly. Hopefully, our two young de's on the end can make it happen.
4-3 + blitzing the house again (like those Eagles teams 10 yrs ago) yeah, they definitely get burned by the big play on occasion, but at this point I'd rather see them lose by a death blow dagger to the heart, than by slowly bleeding to death as TEs methodically slice apart their LBs. "We're gonna put pressure on everybody we play with our style of play. We want to be known as the most physical football team in the NFL." Time to back that shit up
was thinking the same thing. wilk pouha ellis coples harris davis maybin puts some decent speed behind a big 4 man front
This is where the Jets are probably going in a year or two: Wilkerson Coples Ellis RE-to-be-named Davis MLB-to-be-named Harris Or maybe Harris in the middle.
The best defensive gameplan now will be to do what Pittsburg did to us -- ten minute drives. Get the ground game going and the other teams offense off the field. Better pass rush is also needed. Stating the obvious. I know.
If they can stop the run on first down and force some 2nd/3rd long situations it will open up Landry/Bell to blitz. Alex Smith can and will run so you have to contain and tackle. Vernon Davis and Crabtree might run all over the secondary, so if they do blitz they better get there.
How the hell can Seatlle turn into a defense that can get 8 sacks against GB in one half under Pete Fuckin Carroll and our sorry ass clowns can barely get one in three games under our genius DC?
Poor drafting and poor personnel. The last few drafts had a few play makers that could rush the passer but Mikey T cant draft a pass rusher if his life depended on it.
