Was just thinking about this..every year building up to the draft..everyone has there mock drafts, favorite player we all want...one thing I've noticed in the Rex Ryan days...he picked someone we don't think about

2010 a safety or a pass rusher was talked and mocked to us alot.. Taylor mays along with Sergio kindle..a corner wasn't even close to being a need..we drafted Kyle Wilson

2011... Still needed that pass rusher from the outside literally everyone had us taking Akeem ayers or brooks reed.. We drafted mo wilks

2012...still needing that pass rusher again..most glaring need we could have..Melvin ingrim and chandler jones were almost locks to be picked by us...we went in another direction with coples

2013... Still for the sake of all gods of needs...we still needed a edge rusher and now with 2 picks in the 1st rd we had a Ton of players mocked and talked About us, but def not a interior pass rusher like Sheldon Richardson...

This year everyone has us with one of the 3 wrs...and maybe a corner mocked to us....what do you guys think!!!

Now that no one is mocking a OLB to us we will finally take one.

I think that no one here has any idea what the FO is thinking or what grade players they've given players or how their board is set up.

Going by the pattern that every year the pick the masses are wrong about, I'll say we pick an MLB.

I think we still won't take an OLB in the first round but maybe will in the third. CB or WR or Ebron(wishful thinking that he is there) in the first.

The way MM was talking yesterday the roster is so great RIGHT now we can just pass lol. I am sure he is exagerating but Morningweg hinted to "best player available" so take your pick. I think WR/CB first round. We replaced Howard, got some first rate FAs, we just go down those rounds and plug them holes haha.

I think it is pretty much set in stone we go WR or CB...

There really isn't a OLB worthy of the #18 pick, except Anthony Barr, doubtful he will be available. Ford is a reach at #18.

Demarcus Lawrence & Jeremiah Attaochu two serious contenders to be Jets in rd 2. I heard a rumor, so take it FWIW, the Jets are very high on Lawrence.

If you want a surprise at #18, Z. Martin, OT/G could be an option.

WR, CB or S are the order of my preference for Rd 1.

hindsight is golden but its really baffling to me why the jets haven't really invested in the pure rush type backer during the ryan years. he had them in baltimore so why not here.

obviously they dont grow on trees but the impact on the field is enormous and, IMO, outweighs the impact of a shutdown corner or penetrating NT.

Pretty much. I want to go WR or TE if Ebron is available. I've come around on the idea of drafting a CB despite initial distaste for the idea. In my own mock I picked a FS which doesn't seem to be on a lot of people's radars so maybe it's on Idzik's. Or, like jcass said maybe we draft a MLB or something nobody anticipates. It's pretty much impossible to guess and Idzik isn't going to say a single thing that gives a hint on what he's doing (unless it's as a smoke screen) so we just have to wait until next week and see what happens. Unfortunately.

I'm always hoping to add offense so I'm always looking QB or WR or TE in round 1 (although last year I wanted to fix the oline), but in reality, we're built on defense and we'll probably go defense once again. The fact that this class is so deep at WR makes that a little more palatable.

Guy I really wanted last year was Gio Bernard.

To predict our draft pic you have to forget about the jets all together and just ask yourself: "Who's the best college player left standing".

That's why the talking heads have so much trouble figuring out our pic b/c they always use team need as the basis for their analysis. Forget need. Forget the Jets. Who's the BPA? Take him and move on.

Great point on this post buddy!!! I've been thinking the same thing. I've mentioned it before but the Jets beat writers and fans are usually dead wrong about who we will pick and usually they are way off. This same episode is repeated year after year which makes me highly suspect that we will not be hearing Cooks, Beckham, or Dennard's name called on 5/8. Or it might I'm just saying ... History shows overwhelming evidence that fans are pretty clueless with their mocks and projections. That's a fact if there ever was one.

Great point in bringing up OLB. OLB pass rush extraordinaire is still a major need on this team. Dee Ford would be a slight reach yeah ... But so was Bruce Irvin 2 years ago and Jets were all set to draft him. Btw Dee Ford is mocked in the low 20s on NFL.com and Attachou is flying up boards reportedly. How many on here thought Bruce Irvin was a 1st rounder let alone would have been the Jets pick at 14 2 years ago? Nobody on here that I remember.

And there's a scenario that Taylor Lewan falls to 18 .... Isn't that a chance as well. I think so. So much written on here about the 3 wrs and 3 cbs. Seriously why would I not be stunned of they go OLB, OT, or S?

If Lewan falls I could see him being our pick. Maybe even Dee Ford but I think 18th is too early for him, but that's just me. S I'm fine with, I'd be cool with Clinton-Dix or Pryor.

Good post, although everybody had the Jets finding a corner early in the 2013 draft and it happened.

Contrary to what a small minority of alarmists think, I believe that the Jets have worked free agency well enough to be able to draft almost any position.

Wide receiver and corner are the panic points for fans, and beat writers troll forums to find those panic points, but the Jets have been scouting a very broad range of positions, I might be more surprised of the Jets go WR/CB in the first two rounds.

I disagree with the OP's premise, strongly for last year, and less so but still disagree the year before. Last year, with Revis traded already, many did in fact expect the Jets to go Cb high in the draft, and they did go for Milliner with their very first pick.

As for an edge rusher the year before, Coples has turned out to be not all that productive as that yet. But scouting reports had him rated highly for his pass rushing as a DE.

    Here's one:

    http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2012qcoples.php

So I think the OP's premise is wrong at least on those occasions.

Ftr I expect Wr and Cb to be the most likely choices first and second round. Perhaps OL and safety as the backups. A Qb only if one falls to the Jets. I doubt LB, DL, RB are even possibilities.

I think its lee. There seems to be so much discussion over cooks and beckham that it seems too obvious. Lee would slip right in there as the somewhat unexpected pick
