http://nfl.com/news/story/9691763 I know I'm biased, but how is it anybody but Pennington? All these guys had serious injuries, but everyone but Pennington came into the season knowing they were the starting qb for there team. Nobody is surprised that Palmer, or McNabb, or Brees are playing well. Chad almost got cut, and had to take a big paycut to just stay on the team, and then there was so much doubt about him that they drafted a QB early in the 2nd round and traded for one and had an open competition in training camp. He's probably the first guy to ever come back from 2 of these injuries, and few have even comeback from one. There's some good stories this year, but Chad's is by far the most remarkable imo.
Screw those Canidates! Carson Palmer? He played into the playoffs last year. Drew Brees? He played in all 16 games I believe, and got hurt in the last. Only competition for Comeback player of the year should be McNabb. Although people had to expect him to come back and succeed. Unlike Ole' Chaddy Boy.
Palmer's knee was so mangled he now has a dead person's tendon in it. Brees had a torn rotator cuff, that needed surgery, just like Chad. McNabb had a hernia. Big Ben is lucky to even be alive. Any of those guys could deserve the award, just for playing this year. Palmer, Brees, and McNabb have come back like they never had problems in the first place. None of them don't deserve it. That said, Chad has faced double rotator cuff surgery, and looks better than he did pre-surgery, which is near impossible. So he should get it, if he continues the pace he's been on.
As far as im concerned, Grossman and Pennington are the only two guys who even merit consideration here. And I think Pennington has to have the edge, because its not really so much a comeback for Grossman, hes never really had any sort of sustained success before this season... a flash here or there, but mostly hes just been hurt. Pennington was at the top of the world in 2002, was one of the best in the game. Then six months ago, he was nearly out of football. And now hes one of the leagues best performers through the first three weeks. If that award was being given out right now and went to anybody else, itd be an outrage.
I'm disappointed in Phil Simms. Rex Grossman? Come on! After what Chad went through, he's lucky that his arm is still attached to his body! What Chad has done is a modern-day miracle. Heck, I'm waiting for him to cure cancer! He should be the only candidate, period.
My vote goes to Daunte Culpepper... "The Guy who will lead Miami to the Super Bowl" "The 1st QB Miami has had since Dan Marino."
they have to have candidates not just 2 guys, but i will be pissed if chad doesnt get the comeback player of the year. mcnabb and chad are both playing well but chad has had 2 shoulder surgeries plain and simple.
