coaches are going to hate this. One extra team to prepare for, one less game to evaluate the end of your roster. What if the extend the roster size, now more guys with less time to evaluate. Goodell is not impressing as a commissioner so far.

no one cares about football outside of the US- its soccer with your hands and the clock stops... when the novelty factor dies, no one will watch.

Find me the popular sport that plays an odd number of games. Why make the most popular one that way- this is not going to work. NFLPA will tell the owners to go screw, if it gets bad, welcome to a lockout. YAY!!!

I also Heard rumors that the NFL in the future, wants to have 2 preseason games. 18 regular season games, and the Super Bowl would be on President's day weekend and considered a National Holiday.

the rivalry can be based upon goegraphy, rivalries between cities based on other major sports, or based on previous super bowls or based on who owns a team.

the guy who owns the bills lives in detroit, so the bills-lions has geography plus other considerations. kc -vikings based on sb4, atlanta-titans based on geography, panthers-patriots based on super bowl, rams-chargers, bears-colts, miami-tampa, jville-saints, etc.

There would be consecutive years where a team would play 8 home games and 9 road games. Then, the team would play 33 home games and 35 road games in a span of four years. It has to be 34 and 34 every four years (and 17 and 17 every two years) for this system to be fair.

Look at my Jets-Giants example and then do some additional work and you'll see.

Maybe they should stop paying rookie QB's 72 million over 6 years without one snap behind center in the NFL. Either that or charge 5k per seat for the right to buy a seat at a new stadium. Oh shit, now I've done it.

i wouldn't want to see it changed because when someone breaks a old record, its not for real. i hate that. leave it the same for stats purpose. i dont want to see someone get 2400 yrds rushing just because they had an extra two games to do it.

What might be a good idea is to try and create a "rivalry game" much like the interleague play in the MLB. If they're going to add a 17th game, it might as well be an interesting one.

Just throwing some ideas out there:

    Jets-Giants
    Dolphins-Buccaneers
    Patriots-Packers
    Bills-Vikings
    Redskins-Ravens
    Chiefs-Rams
    49ers-Raiders
    Chargers-Cardinals
    Seahawks-Broncos
    Saints-Jaguars
    Titans-Falcons
    Browns-Lions
    Bears-Colts
    Steelers-Eagles
    Texans-Cowboys
    Panthers-Bengals

Granted, some of these don't work. I would also ensure that I have a SuperBowl rematch from the previous year every season.

Do all the teams make the season ticket holders buy pre-season tickets?

No offense, but sometimes I really wonder if people read other posts before posting.

Shorten to 2 preseason games and 18 regular season. Then let the teams set up as many scrimmages as they like and allow them to charge an admission to them and keep the profit 100% for the team. Scrimmages can be 2 or 4 quarters to reduce risks of injuries.

I think maybe you were just trying to get your post count up. Not a problem, if that is the case. I see you are new.

mr. nyjet had already posted the same idea you have and it looked like you had ignored him.

I also do not think the idea would work because there would be situations where teams would have to play their rival twice at the same location in one season. The league would not want the Ravens to play at Washington two times in one season.

What about using a few teams from different divisions across the other conference? Could that work? Of course, it wouldn't exactly be rivalry for us to play the Seahawks or Rams, but there's a storyline for everything if you look ahrd enough.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Jets vs Giants as a rivalry game simply could not happen every year. As a rivalry week game, it could only probably be done two times (home and home) every four years.
Then there would be another Jets-Giants meeting when the AFC East teams play the NFC East teams.

The Jets would play the Giants three times every four years.

For rivalry week games the Jets would play the Giants two times every four years. Who would the Jets play in the other two years? I don't know.

That's exactly what I said in the beginning of the thread. More watered down bullshit just to help TV-ability and $$$. A true fan would be opposed to this.

I would like to hear jonnyd's response to either of our posts.

P.S. Goodell is a muthafckin, POS, hypocritical chump...did i mention, fck him!

you have a valid point. in those years where the afc east plays the nfc east, the jets could play the giants just once, and just play another team from the nfc that finished in the same spot in its division as the jets did, say 2nd place.

    That could work, possibly.

I do like the idea of having a rivalry game. If the NFL does go to a 17 or 18-game schedule, I would like to see them implement a rivalry week and actually have it be a specific week every year, maybe the same weekend of college football's (official/unofficial- whatever) rivalry week.
