Looking like a tight competition this year in the NL, lots of excellent pitchers, but lets take a look at the top 3... Tim Lincecum - San Francisco Giants Leads the NL in Strikouts and has a substantial lead in ERA. In top five in Wins, BAA and IP. Biggest issue seems to be he is on an awful Giants team that provides little run support. C.C. Sabathia - Milwaukee Brewers If you include his stats with the Clevelan Indians, he is in the top 5 in NL in Wins and Strikeouts. Take away those stats, and he still an incredible pitcher, just lacking stat wise. Brandon Webb - Arizona Diamondbacks Leads NL in Wins. Top 5 in CG. Top 10 in Strikeouts and ERA. Best pitcher on a team substantially better then the Brewers or Giants. Gets loads of run support. If I had a vote, I'd give mine to Tim Lincecum, right now. Sabathia has a strong argument if he continues to dazzle and goes undefeated the rest of the way. Discuss!!
Harden would be the clear choice for me if he had spent the whole year in the NL(or if he could stay healthy). I'd give it to Lincecum but Webb will probably get it because of the wins.
Ya, unfortunetly the writers give too much credence to wins. Ya, winning is the point of the game, but the CY Young is about the most dominant pitchers in the league, and this year, it's clearly Lincecum. IMO, Sabathia shouldn't be eligible, you switch leagues, you start over.
Too bad the mets blew so many games for Santana this year. Santana 196 innings 1.15 whip .234 BAA 2.75 ERA, 169 K/51 BB Webb 192 innings 1.17 whip .241 BAA 3.19 ERA 160 K/51 BB Lincecum 190 innings 1.19 whip .222 BAA 2.60 ERA 216 K/72 BB Lincecum should probably be the winner.
Absolutly, but I find it kind of dumb that in NL Cy Young discussions, writers are including his AL stats. If he goes undefeated the rest of the season, I think he'll be around 12-0. He won't even be eligible for the NL ERA title with his innings pitched!
it would be idiotic to include his AL stats. The point is that his NL stats are so incredible that even without the innings of the others, he has a case. Plus the Brewers are abusing his arm because they're not re-signing him, so he's going to have quite a lot of innings considering the amount of time he's been with the team. His average innings per start must be top 5 in baseball.
Lincecum is on the mound again tonight after an awful performance against the Rockies last week. It was also the first time he didn't toss a quality outing in his past seven starts, dating back to July 20th.
I voted Sabathia (who I wouldn't be surprised if he won) but I meant to vote Lincecum. I don't think there's any way around it, he's been a workhorse this year. A Great pitcher. Thoroughly deserves it.
Lincecum has been outstanding. Still amoung the league leaders in IP, despite an awful outing last week and missing a start due to a death in his family in late August.
Lincecum continues to pull away with the Cy Young. so far... 6.1 4 hits no walks 9 Ks oh, and he's a better hitter than most pitchers out there. Hell, he can hit as well as Ivan Ochoa or Omar Vizquel.
he leads the NL in strikeouts, he's tied for 2nd in wins (16-3 on a bad team), leads the league in ERA, etc. There's not really a question anymore.
