Embedded in DiTrani's story about Taylor retiring was this blurb... The Giants and Jets will not get together for a combined practice this summer in Albany. The two teams practiced against each other during the past two training camps, last year's sessions featuring several flareups between the Jets' defense and the Giants' offense. The change in the Jets' coaching staff, not the scuffles, is the reason the two will not practice together this year. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTY5NDQ2MDkmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2 I wonder if last years antics had anything to do with it....
I never went to this practice between the Giants and the Jets in Albany, NY but I heard from a few people who went to it that they had a real good time. But if this is what Mangini wants to do he is the new coach.
I think that the scrimmage last year really went to the heads of our players. After that scrimage and the "that's how we land our hats on people" comments, the team walked around with too much of an arrogance and swagger, which wasn't warranted. It wasn't like the team last year was a mid 80's version of the Giants or Bears.
Ha! Now its too much arrogance and swagger. I remember most of us were generally pleased to see some life in the defense after the scrimmage last year. It didn't carry over into the regular season though, as they came out flat as week old soda.
They might suck but my money says that they make it alot further than our guys in green this year... I'd like to have a sucky TE, sucky RB, 2 consistently sucky DE's, and maybe even a sucky tall receiver who can come up with the ball more than once or twice in a season.
Yeah, that was the scrimmage where the big bad Jets defense came back with smirks on their faces and announced that they were "going to be one of the top five defenses in the NFL". That was the scrimmage where Mr Edwards announced that the Jet defense needed to get their "swagger" back. Not surprised that this new staff (even if they turn out to be horrible) wants to keep both playbook and ego under wraps.
There's a lot more behind this than people realize. The Giants have always treated the Jets like a second class organization. After the scrimmage last year somebody in the Giant's front office went out of their way to tell the press (off the record) that Donnie Henderson was leading a ticky-tack cheapshot defense. He ran the Jets down just like the Giant's FO people have done for years. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets and Giants do not share a scrimmage for years to come, maybe a generation. That's just my take based on what I've seen.
Practicing against the Giants meant the team was in buses for 6 hours in 1 day. I can't imagine that's good for the players. I agree with practicing at our facilities running our program in the same manner we usually do. I'm not a huge fan of these joint practices.
I kinda wish we had that practice...It would give our secondary a confidence booster going against Eli all day
