ESPNEWS reports he has been suspended 4 games by the NFL. He is a good player. Anyone know why? I just see it in the corner. Just found this: Lions | Rogers tests positive to banned substance Tue, 17 Oct 2006 15:21:00 -0700 Updating an earlier report, Tom Kowalski, of mlive.com, reports Detroit Lions DT Shaun Rogers was suspended four games by the NFL for testing positive for a banned substance. Sources close to the situation said it was not an illegal drug. After the club's Bye in Week 7, Rogers will sit out four games without pay KFFL thinks the Jets are so bad they are considering them a Bye.
This will definitely help us establish a running game this week, as Rogers as one of the best run-stoppping DTs in the league. Hopefully we can get one of our backs going early.
This is big news... He's definetly a good Run-stopper so hopefully our running game will get a nice boost from thsi.
Well, we won't have to worry about the front seven much, rogers is one of the best dlinemen in the league.
The guys on NFL Network are saying this is a huge blow to the Lions D. He was their leader and play maker.
I was watching the Bills-Lions game when Ernie Sims got injured. It happened right in front of that sound catching device. It was the loudest scream I ever heard in my 20+ years of watching NFL games on television. I hadn't noted whether or not he returned to the game. I suppose even if he did return, he still could be hurting now. Rogers is a key loss. He's the Lions best player. He is stout against the run and can rush the passer.
Got to be happy at this news from Jet perspective. Apparently he claims it was an over-the-counter kind of thing, but 4 games means it's not his first violation, so I doubt people will believe him.
Now you see why EM wants good character people..Detriot didn't do their homework on this guy because it's probably not the first time he's done it just the first time getting caught..
Let's not jump the gun. I believe his suspension starts AFTER the 8th week bye. So he will play against the Jets. From an article on the subject: "Rogers, who has been battling a sore knee in recent weeks, will not be eligible to return until December 3, when Detroit visits New England. The 27-year-old will not be paid during his suspension."
I read that his suspension starts after his bye week, so it seems he'll have one more game against the Jets to get all his frustrations out.
Some conflicting reports. According to Pastabelly at espn the suspension starts immediately. The suspension is immediate, meaning that Rogers will miss this Sunday's game at the New York Jets, home contests against Atlanta (Nov. 5) and San Francisco (Nov. 12), and a game at Arizona (Nov. 19). He will be eligible to return for the Thanksgiving Day game against the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 23. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2630061
Yeah, I've seen both online, so I don't know what to expect. I would assume the suspension would start immediately or players could just take a bunch of illegals a week before the superbowl and still play, but be suspended for the beginning of next year(or something like that).
