NYDN : Ben Kotwica interviews for the Redskins

No real loss. Since Westy left I haven't been impressed.

Having Westy as STs coach for so many years spoilt us. Traditionally we have always had great STs, I just hope next season that returns.

I thought he did decent. The Jets need to find a better return man if they really want to improve their special teams.

Whaaaaaaaaat? I was told that it just wasn't a priority for the Jets to announce the done deal.

    Shocked. Very shocked.

Kotwica is gone, that is a loss unless Westhoff wants to come back.

I would have liked Kotwica back.
We spent 4 years grooming him for this role when Westhoff retired, and gone after only 1 year taking over. Seems like a solid individual as well.
Hopefully Westhoff comes back for another 3 years!

Whoever we get as STC, we should draft a Punter, sign McCluster, and draft depth guys late who can potentially contribute on ST. If McCluster too pricey, I'd be down for re-signing Cribbs. Loved Cribbs on punt returns and coverage..

Westhoff has unretired before, he has a cushy TV/radio job now. I wonder if he'd come back?

  9. Westhoff can coach here for as long as he wants in my book. I think Jets would welcome him back w/ open arms.

He'd be a great guy to have around for this Jets rebuild. He's a very good talent evaluator

we were improved this year on STs. 2012 was a horrible year thanks mostly to no depth. we weren't as good as normal Westhoff year but were better than Mike's last.

I dont want to hijack this thread but whats going on with Rex and the extension to his contract. Could it be Rex and the GM are at odds with the offer

improved from 2012 still sucks and just like you said, the difference can be attributed to the talent level not being the absolute bottom of the barrel with guys coming in every week. kotwica wasnt horrible, but i didnt say that. theres definitely room for improvement though, and if we want to make a run for the playoffs next season special teams need to improve

as we bring in more talent I would expect STs to keep improving.
