We're up 1-0 headed to Bottom 8th. A-Rod is 3 for 3 with 3 singles. B Colon 7 scoreless, no walks. Pen needs to get it done for big bad Bartolo.

According to ESPN, A-Rod admitted his hip has been bothering him. According to Yankees.com, he denied it had any effect on him this past month. I'm too lazy to keep researching right now, but methinks the hip is acting up.

EDIT: Colon back out there in the 8th, didn't realize his pitch count was so low to this point. Fuck ya Bartolo.

Logic said keep Colon in the game. I guess Joe's book said bring in Rivera.

Just another brilliant managerial move by Girardi. Look I don't want to take the blame off of Rivera who blew the game, but come on that should have been Colon in the 9th

Anyone listening on 880? Some huge douche-b keeps yelling "LETS GO YANNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEESSSSS!" at the top of his lungs right next to the broadcast booth, so it comes in over Sterling and Waldman. They haven't said anything about it.

We're in extra innings, after Mo blew a save. Colon was great, as was Britton.

Considering Colon had thrown only 87 pitches, it was surprising that Girardi didn't trust him to pitch the 9th. 8 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk. I know you want to bring in the closer in a 1-0 game, but give the guy a chance.

I dunno... that seems like bitching for the sake of bitching. I mean, while I personally wanted to see Colon stay in the game, it's kind of hard to blame Girardi for bringing in the greatest closer in baseball history to protect a one-run lead in the ninth, regardless of how well Colon was pitching.

It's not bitching for the sake of bitching. In fact, I don't even think it's "bitching" at all.

It's pointing out that your starter has been dominant and has a low pitch count. You could let him go for the shutout. I believe most managers would have. I guess it's because Girardi has so much faith in Rivera (rightfully so).

It's perfectly logical to argue that the starter should get the chance.

87 pitches in 8 innings?! Wow! Girardi should have sent Colon back out in the 9th but have Rivera ready to go in case a guy got on base.

Waldman finally mentions the nut next to the booth. "You'd think he'd get tired by now."

A lot of baserunners in scoring position this game. They're just not being driven in.

Cano with a 2 run triple in the 15th.

Next batter, Dickerson hit in the head. Pitcher ejected.

Glad we came out of that marathon with a win. Colon pitched great, as did the pen.

Sorry, I know that looked like I was responding to you, but I actually meant it for the two posts above yours that were mocking Girardi's move. You had just submitted your post while I was composing mine.

It might be perfectly logical to argue that the starter should get the chance, but that's different from complaining about bringing in the best reliever of all time in a 1-0 game. Even if you disagree with the move... or with Girardi's moves in general... it's hard to fault him in this particular instance.

Sorry for the confusion, I didnt mean to say that I was complaining about going to Mo as much as I was complaining about the decision to lift Colon. I'm as big of a Rivera fan as anyone and I shudder to think about the day he wont be here. I brought up a similar point in Yesterdays thread about how Girardi managed the bottom of the ninth yesterday

Right, but that's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation if I ever saw one. If Mo does his job (which he does far more often than a closer on any other team), then no one is talking about this. How do you fault a manager for going to the GREATEST CLOSER OF ALL TIME?!

That makes no sense, almost regardless of the situation. It's not like Mo had pitched four days in a row. It's not as though he had been struggling.
