All of a sudden I feel the vikings are getting first downs at will.....whats happening? Are we really going to lose this game?

Two TD's on 3rd and fucking 19. We can't get off the field on fucking 3rd and 19.

Yeah the vikings have made how many CONSECUTIVE third and longs now? This is typical Jets....

This defense is good, but hardly a juggernaut.

3rd down defense needs serious work. It's been the Achilles' Heel of the defense all year.

Rex and Pettine need to brainstorm, and players need to execute.

I think "Where did the defense go?" would be a better title. The Vikings were shut out in the first half.

The Jets were at their absolute peak last year. Even then they gave up late drives to lose two games. There was going to be some degradation from that this season unless everything went perfectly. Instead we got Mevis holding out and making himself useless for the first half of the season, we got Jenkins hurt again only in the first game this time, we got a rookie CB making his debut like all rookie CB's as burnt toast, etc.

The Jets will probably wind up somewhere between 6th and 11th on team defense this season. If we're lucky they'll establish the ground and pound with some shot-taking out of that and finish 6th to 11th on offense also. That should be more than enough to get us into the playoffs with a home game and maybe even a bye.

Our defense is doing things almost exactly opposite of last year. They are allowing teams to move the football during the game, but when it counts late in the game we are getting stops. Last year it was exactly opposite, no movement all game, until late in the fourth, then we couldnt stop a pee wee team.

those third and longs have been our bugaboo, which is total bullshit. Rex might just be a little too stubborn always blitzing that.

    2 things

    1) The offense is much better than last year. Had struggles today but the weather was awful and the Vikes defense is excellent
    2) The defense is actually closing games out. Against Miami when they needed a stop most, they got an interception at the goal line. Tonight got a clutch pick 6

We NEED to stop with the 3rd and long conversions. Won't beat the good/great teams with giving up consecutive 3rd and 15 and 3rd and 12 on back to back series.

This. It needs to at least be mixed up so they don't know wtf we're going to do.

Defense is stepping up at clutch time, but I would like to see Darelle get back on track. A couple of missed plays on his part but he did a solid job for the most part.

Here's the way I look at it: when you've got a hyper-aggressive blitzing defense like Rex does, you're going to give up the big play every now and again. Especially on third and long, especially against a hall of famer with a hard-on for lucky tosses.

An Eric Mangini defense could stop a 3rd and 19 almost every time. Of course, a Mangini defense doesn't get too many 3rd and 19's, because they're too busy getting "safely" gashed on first and second.

I'll take the Rex defense and the surrendering of a few big plays over the slow death of a bend-but-don't-break defense any day.

This is how we need to think. As a fanbase, this is how we need to think.

I hunkered down for the remaining quarter, expecting to keep the lead. I must have said "first turnover is the loser" about 20 times.

Unless Kyle Orton pulls a Matt Schaub and gets shaken at any type of defensive blitz pressure, the Broncos present an AWFUL matchup for the Jets in the West Coast.

Broncos have 0 run game and are a pure passing team and Orton has been on fire. Jets defense, specifically the secondary have to do good because the Broncos are bipolar.
