Our former personnel director says that our QBs rank dead last in the NFL. 32 out of 32. Is he right? http://www.nfl.com/kickoff/story?id...late=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true
Here's a list of teams that are on the same level as us, in terms of quarterback play in 2009: Oakland, San Francisco, Cleveland New York, Buffalo, Denver, Kansas City, Detroit, and Tampa Bay All of these teams have unproven and/or inconsistent quarterbacks.
Until Sanchez is a consistent starter, which i'm more than confident he will be - Kirwin is right. The reason is because there are QBs who have started at one point and proved they could be a viable backup QB. Not a starter, but a backup QB. Jets have no backups
by his formula yea he's right but that because sanchez is an unknown quantity.i like the comment next to the raiders though
How could he even have an opinion when he has only seen one of them play? That's just the usual Jets hating that comes from everywhere.
I read that too, and what it didn't mention was potential, which of course can't really be evaluated, which I think should have been attempted, somehow. The whole article is based on IFs and BUTs.
Because their high pick was taken 4 spots ahead of our guy and because their other quarterback was almost MVP earlier in their career and our guy sucks?
It's Pat Kirwan. If he really knew value when he saw it the Jets wouldn't have collapsed between 1989 and 1996. On his list I see at least three teams that have much bigger questions than the Jets right now. The Raiders have a QB who may well not be accurate enough to play at a reasonable level in the NFL. Russell is on the bubble right now and needs to show a huge improvement over the 434 throws he's made so far if he's going to make it in the NFL. The Lions have a huge arm at QB in Stafford but his accuracy is also in question and will also be a make or break thing for him. Daunte Culpepper is just beat up and worn out. The Chiefs have Matt Cassell's knee apparently a possible surgery candidate, something that won't get better as the season goes on and he's backed up by Tyler Thigpen and Brodie Croyle. Sorry, I'd take Sanchez, as-is raw rookie and all over any of those team's options right now. If Russell turns out to be a below average NFL passer the Raiders are screwed for a decade.
That article is such horseshit. While I'm not penciling anyone into canton just yet, look at the fookin' top of the list. It's ridiculous.
Matt Cassel is an overrated schmuck who benefitted from having a cakewalk schedule featuring the AFC and NFC West. Most of those teams ranked damn near at the bottom of the NFL in defense. He turned that into a lucrative contract and a starting gig in KC. Hey guess what Matt. Dwayne Bowe isn't Randy Moss and you don't have a Wes Welker either, not to mention the O-Line is a thousand times worse. And you don't even have Tony Gonzalez to throw it to either. Don't be surprised to see Cassel rank amongst the worst QB's in the league with some backups putting up better ratings.
It is hard to not put the Jets last. The best option never played a down in the NFL while Clemens and Ainge are lucky to be on an NFL roster. Anyone who thinks the Bears overpaid for Cutler or the Jets overpaid to move up for a chance at a franchise quarterback should read every name on that list and re-think their position.
so Matt Leinart is a great backup? Can this guy even play in the NFL? How does anyone know? he had a good pre-season game but still!
I completely concur with this comment. You sure can justify the Jets being last in a preseason rating like this based on having a rookie QB. But who cares. We know Sanchez is going to prove himself this year. The Jets have a shot at making the post season this year and the Lions, the Chiefs, the Buccaneers, and the Broncos do not. Bears most definelty made the right move getting Cutler. I think they are now the team to beat in the NFC. Meanwhile the Broncos now replace the Raiders in the AFC west cellar for the next few years until they can undo the damage done by McDaniels.
I wouldn't put Oakland on that list. The Raiders are a joke but I don't think Russell is quite as bad as he's made out to be.. and they have by far the best backup in the league. I'd rank them just ahead of us and those other teams.
