This isn't just another sign this guy thread. Tim Wright is young, and has shown some serious potential as a move tight end in his brief couple of years in the NFL. The guy is talented. I realize we have Amaro, but I really think we should bring Wright in for a look. Sudfeld is on the roster bubble, and Tim Wright could be just another weapon in the event Amaro doesn't take steps forward, plus could add a whole new dimension if Amaro and Wright are on the field at the same time. I truly don't understand why the Pats would cut him loose. Former WR at Rutgers. Rookie year UDFA: 54-571-5 11 TD's across 2 seasons including 1 in limited action for the Pats. I think this is very much worth a look. Thoughts?
Probably a better, younger and cheaper receiving option than Cumberland. Sudfeld's been around here too long, we've developed him too long, plus he's one of the best special teamers here, he should stick around. I think he can be a Larry Donnell type if he gets some serious playing time this year.
Solid but nothing spectacular at all. He came in at the right time and took advantage for the Pats last year (6 TD's) when Gronk was limited with one of his usual injuries. The Pats cut him loose because they got Chandler from the Bills and Fred Davis from the Skins. He's a decent depth guy at TE.
I will pay the moderators 1 BILLION dollars if we can put all of these threads in 1 place. Spoiler alert: Lots of players going to be cut, a new thread will appear for all of them.
Sudfeld STNKS...pure and simple...he let that Packer DB cut right in front of him last year when Geno got hit and that turned that game around...Didn't even have the sense to fight for the ball or make sure GB didn't pick it off...Waste of roster spot...this years's Clyde Gates. The jets can do much better.
Can this guy block? Seems kinda smallish (6'3 235) and we really don't need any more non blocking TE or pseudo WR. If suds is gone I'd rather we did it for the Saxon kid.
I'm a big fan of wright. and id be all for picking him up and walking away from amaro and/or sudfeld. I'm not a big amaro supporter, i think he is a 1 trick pony who isnt good at that 1 trick and who seems to struggle to stay on the field. Mac didnt draft him, so hopefully he doesnt let the second round pick get in the way of anything i think wright could be really good here
I don't know that I'd walk away from Amaro that's a bit extreme. But I think he could add value as a compliment to Amaro, and if he outperforms him can take some of his snaps.
Amaro plays a similar role and makes more sense the sudfeld due to current and future payscale. if you dont think wright can outperform him, then you dont sign wright. you dont bring in wright for purely competition and id doubt he would come here to fill such a role when he likely has other suitors
I agree, it's kinda early to cut bait on a guy who wasn't awful considering the shit show the entire offense was. I like Amaro's "rumblability" despite the drops. I just think he needs to develop some rhythm with the offense. Which in addition to having suck ass Qb play; they had no kind of cohesive gameplan. Needless to say, I'm really excited to see what some of these guys can do with consistent prep. If anybody needs to go it needs to be Suds. The guy has shown nothing in his entire time here. Can't block, can't catch, what's the point of even being here? It's time for him to go; straight to Buffalo. Honestly, I was really hoping the kid was going to show something. Last season when he let a defender catch an INT right in front of his nose; I forget which game. Followed up by him not even making even the slightest attempt on the ball or the defender. That was it for my support of Suds.
Cutting a round 2 TE after his rookie year (when TE's always take 1 year to leap forward), makes no sense. Sudfeld is irrelevant to this decision. He offers nothing. You bring in Wright and if he plays well he gets the 3rd TE spot over Sudfeld (who offers basically nothing), and Kellen Davis (same as Sudfeld except hes a bit of a better blocker). Wright and Amaro would both have a role on the team, and it in no way needs to be 1 or the other.
I view it differently. sudfeld plays special teams and is in a lower slot salary wise. he isnt someone you cut for a player like wright who is more in amaro's range as far as projected salary in a couple years and as far as skillset and roles are concerned. Davis doesnt fit in, he is basically a tackle eligible. he may not make the roster himself regardless of if we brought in another guy like wright or not. IF you think Wright is the better player, a guy who can remain healthy, then Amaro's 2nd round status is a non factor, especially since this regime did not bring him along. if you dont think wright can be better then amaro, then you dont bring wright in. We cant let investments by a previous regime dictate whether or not guys like milliner or amaro have a longterm future here.
It's not letting 2nd round investments dictate, it's a matter of TE's take a documented 1 year to get it going. And there is no reason to cut Amaro, and no reason not to pick up Wright because Amaro is on the roster. I am willing to bet if we poll this you would be the only vote saying to cut Amaro in this scenario.
