Isnt it funny how all the pundits blamed the talent around Hackenberg as the reason for his poor play in college and now that he leaves the offense is scoring 40 Pts a game and the team is on the footsteps of a Big Ten Championship? PSU was bad the past two years because they had a QB who couldn't deal with a pass rush. McCagnan lost all credibility with me for pulling the trigger in the second round on a kid who couldn't even handle the basic aspects of the position in college. He should be shown the door for that draft pick alone. Meanwhile Elway pulls out a kid in the 7th round out of Northwestern who is light years better than any QB we have drafted in the past 50 years.
OL and OL. Go watch the Temple game last season. Penn States team has developed nicely. Their OL has gotten a lot better, and their RB has had 2x as good of a season (in part to improved OL play). It's really not that difficult to see. How many PSU games have you watched this season? How much Big Ten football do you watch? A lot of teams have fallen off while Penn State has developed. PSU also has the smallest senior class in CFB history. They just pulled themselves out of a giant hole. Hackenberg chose to stay there and tough it out. That's extremely commendable. He went through a lot. Hack on their team would be having the same if not better success in 2016.
Honestly, he's an inaccurate passer but his mechances were fucked with the last couple seasons under Franklin. I believe that had O'Brien stayed at Penn State, we'd be talking about a much different player. Hackenberg was the top QB recruit in the nation for a reason. He has the size, tools, and head to play QB at a high level. Idk if you guys have seen his QB camp with Gruden, but the kid knows his X's and O's. He was basically running Tom Brady's system as a true freshman and followed by running a dumbed down system that didn't fit his skillset. He was asked to do something he was very incomfortabe doing under Franklin. His footwork was changed which affected his accuracy. His head was completely taken out of the game and his oline was one of the worst I've ever seen. They could barely handle a 3 man rush. On top of all this, he held a PSU team together through the toughest few years of their existence. I think he deserves sone props for that and we should give him a chacne before throwing in the towel on him. He may surprise you.
This is an unfair "knock" on Hack. For one, it's a totally new offense then even what Hackenburg ran in college. The OC, Moorehead brought in a true RO run attack with some nice passing concepts branched off into it. McSorley has been a great fit not only because of his legs, but decision making and his playmaking ability
Jumping the gun. If he can get his mechanics sorted out, his ceiling is what he played like during the Boston College 2014 and Wisconsin 2013 games. If we end up getting that guy, then him for a second rounder is a steal.
This is the stupidest fucking thread yet. Brain Gaia is the only returning player on that offensive line. There is this thing called recruiting. It's amazing what it can do for a team in just a years span. You should check it out, big part of the college football system. Amazing the shit you learn when you actually try to watch college football. Get the fuck outta here with this retarded ass thread.
I have never seen us develop a QB in my lifetime and I don't think its gonna start now with an extreme project.
Hackenberg was one of he worst QBs in college football, so it stands to reason the team would improve through him leaving. He was not worth a roster spot as an undrafted FA, let alone a valuable 2nd round pick. Just an amazing failure by Mac, made all the worse by Prescott's success. When Mac is ultimately fired (which is probably 2-3 years away given how we cycle through GMs), the Hackenberg pick will be cited to as one of his key failures. It's a pick that gets a GM fired. I hope he has a better plan than this guy for 2017 QB
You act like Prescott would be playing here. We got fitz and he gives us the best chance to win games.
I have said it for years: Hackenberg held back that Top Talent Penn State team for 3 years! Oh wait, they sucked ass and he was the only bright spot.
yea...I appreciate the optimism but he looked really bad his last year. I didn't like the pick at the time and still don't.
