Currently, if we and CIN win out, we'd be tied on record, conference record and common games. Strength of victory is currently +11 in our favor.

We may be up +11, but our remaining opponents are NYG and MIA which have 12 wins between them vs. CIN which has ARI and BAL which have 17 wins between them. So assuming both teams win out, the margin becomes +6.

Here are the ways where CIN can catch up:

    Week 16 -

    IND over HOU (-1)
    TEN over JAX (-1)
    STL over PIT (-1)
    SEA over SF (-1)
CLE over BAL (-2) or BAL over CLE (-1)

    Week 17 -
    CLE over PIT (-2)
    STL over SF (-1)
    IND over JAX (-1)
    TEN over HOU (-1)
SEA over ARI (-1) or ARI over SEA (-1)

In addition, there are some ways where NYJ can pull ahead:

    Week 16 -

    BUF over DEN (+1)
    KC over OAK (+1)
    MIA over NE (+2)
    WAS over MIN (+1)
    SD over DET (+1)
    DAL over PHI (+1)

    Week 17 -

    BUF over NE (+2)
    WAS over PHI (+1)
    KC over DEN (+1)
    SD over OAK (+1)
DAL over NYG (+1) or NYG over DAL (+1)

The most CIN can catch up in week 17 from the +6 figure is 10. If we can get +4 more differential this week, we'll be in a position where they can't catch up no matter what.

To recap, here are the teams we're cheering for in Week 16:

    Group 1
    BUF over DEN
    KC over OAK
    WAS over MIN
    SD over DET
    DAL over PHI
    HOU over IND
    JAX over TEN
    PIT over STL
    SF over SEA
    BAL over CLE

    Group 2
    MIA over NE

If all 10 of the things in group 1 happen, we control our own destiny. If MIA beats NE and 8 of the 10 things in group 1 happen, we control our own destiny.

Thankfully, most of the things in both groups align with a 9-7 playoff scenario. The only one that doesn't is SD over DET. So call that one a wash. All others we can safely pull for.

Great job. I was playing around with the playoff scenarios yesterday talking with Soss, but I was too lazy to do a post about it.

Safe to say, win our games, we're in, barring a miracle.

    Though you're forgetting.

    Week 16
    Jets over Giants (duh)
    Kansas City over Oakland
    Arizona over Cincinnati
    Jacksonville over Tennessee
    Detroit over San Diego
    Buffalo over Denver

Would be nice to have all those teams lose. Doesn't seem we can clinch this week. We desperately will need that Dolphins game...

How does common games work the way I see it is as this. How do they handle team that were played twice by one team and only once by the other. Is it common non-division opponents?

    Jets Bengals
    Denver L L
    Buff W(2) W
    Jax W W
    Balt L L (?)

If the Jets win both they're in... All the stuff above is alot of not happening.

If we win both it will be hard not to make it. It goes down to the 3rd or 4th tiebreaker w/ Cincy which is win% of teams we have beaten, we have a 5 game lead so it would be hard to lose that in 2 weeks but you never know. Cincy is going to lose to Baltimore in week 17 anyway. if we win we're going.

Bottom line: Win the last 2 games and we're in. Lose to NYG and beat MIA, and we still have a solid chance. Lose to Miami, and we need a ton to go our way.

I think if we win, Cincy loses, oak loses and ten loses we pretty much should be in.

Can't clinch this week over the Bengals since conference record is tied right now. The other 7-7 teams it is possible.

Right. For example, if Jets win this week (NFC team) then lose next week (AFC team) and CIN loses this week (NFC team) and wins next week (AFC team) then CIN would have a better conference record therefore get in ahead of the Jets.

So in theory the Jets can beat out everyone but Cincinnati this week.

That's true, if we had the Miami game this week and NYG next week then we could OR if Cincy played an AFC team this week. Either way I'd be stunned if Cincy beat Baltimore as they will still be fighting for the division so we are in great shape IF we can play the way we are capable of playing.

The way I look at it is, nothing really matters unless we beat the Dolphins. Ive said this before, this game is set up perfectly to be a huge heartbreaker. Anything can happen so it is going to be a huge game.

I think Cinci loses to Balt, so if we beat the Dolphins we should be good...
