What do you think our secondary will look like week 1? We know Rex likes to make a lot of changes during the game, so lets say for the first snap of the game. Lets also assume no one gets injured in preseason.
I voted for Milliner/McDougle and Landry/Pryor. Just like we cast Milliner into the fire last year, makes sense to do the same for McDougle, if they really believe he can be a starting corner in the league. The earlier he gets experience, the earlier he can start learning. Patterson is kind of a waste to start with his injury history, but if McDougle really struggles, he could take over. Dixon (the other draft pick at CB) is probably too raw since he played at a small school. Walls has good speed, quickness and technique, but he cant defend the pass when it gets there (his 28 inch vertical probably has a lot to do with that). Pryor, as a first round pick, should definitely start, but because we have so many young guys, I think Landry will be the QB of the secondary as a veteran, kinda risky putting Allen in there and have 4 young guys.
I don't know the starting lineup, but I believe Idzik will try and trade for or bring in another corner. Patterson was an 'OK' grab during FA, but I doubt anyone is sleeping well because of it. Upgrading our 2nd corner is probably a priority moving forward. Idzik could look for a decent vet to play along side Milliner/Pryor. The Bills waited until drafting Sammy Watkins before cutting Stevie Johnson, so other teams may be willing to part ways with one of their better corners now that the draft is over and rosters are shaping up.
Rex shows deference to his veterans, so while I expect Pryor to start day 1, I expect the other three to be Milliner, Wilson, and Landry.
1st snap of the first game I went Milliner/Pryor/Landry/Patterson. By the end of the season I think that changes but for the opening of the season I think Rex goes with the Vets and Boomstick.
people dont remember in 2012 kyle wilson played pretty well on the outside.. i think hell play there again this year with patterson in the slot
I'm thinking it will be Milliner and Walls as the CBs in game one, with Wilson coming in as the nickel, and Pryor/Reed as our SS/FS.
My pick would be 6363. It's May. The odds we can figure out who from among about 18 DB's are playing back there are about the same as the odds of hitting Pick 4. I'm going to guess that Milliner, x, Pryor, y is as close as anybody can come to accurately predicting the outcome of the battles at this point.
Patterson is a pretty good CB who can't stay healthy. I'm guessing he will be healthy for the 1st snap of the 1st game but no guarantees after that.
Milliner and Patterson on the outside with Wilson in the slot. Landry and Pryor de facto starters but will be rotating in Allen and Bush regularly.
We could do the old "who will get more snaps an an inline TE next year, Amaro or Cumberland?" thing. That would be decent filler.
Now this is interesting. A somewhat optimistic post that is actually reasonably plausible. I say reasonably because there is reason to pursue such an approach, but that doesn't mean they will. I say plausible because the Jets certainly could pursue a trade, and/or wait to see if some real talent at Cb ends up being a camp cut. And it is clearly optimistic in the sense that the right move would upgrade Cb, which as it stands right now is the most obvious weakness in the starting lineup (aside from the question marks at Qb, but I digress). But I only say somewhat optimistic since imo the odds of finding a significant upgrade by this approach are not great. Still, nice post.
