haha. I'll admit that if I were in charge at the time I would have taken Jonah Williams because Sam desperately needed help. I wonder how different things would be now if that had happened. I've always liked Q though and I hope he stays a Jet for a long time. He's our big baby.
To be fair he did not get off to the fastest start and we did lose a ton of games with him starting. At this point the sooner we lock him up the better.
Fork over the cash, JD! It's amazing to see how Q has taken the step from a good player to an elite one. He's a legitimate difference maker at IDL Even when they do pay north of $20mil/yr for Q, fortunately there's a lot of cheaper, young talent on the DL (Johnson, Clemons, Huff) to balance the money tied up there.
Q has finally grown into his body. When he was drafted it was known that he would be much better in 2 or 3 years when he finished bulking up and getting stronger.
The Jets really need to make that option year next year a big contract where tearing up the option year is part of the value for Q. Say they offer him $100M/5 yrs with $40M up front. That's $30M+ next year over what he'd receive and it's equivalent to a $22.6M a year deal from '24-'27 counting the $9.594M Q is due to make next year. That's a win-win. The Jets lock in Q at an affordable price and he gets a huge amount of injury insurance and 4x+ the immediate cash next season.
On this forum we call out the players based upon what we see on the field with our own eyes. How many times were we told to trust the coaches or that a player has potential when our average season ends up around 6-10 with no playoffs? Quinnen Williams has my respect now because he earned it. I have no regrets for calling him out in the past because at the time he earned that as well.
To each his own. I think there's a line though when it comes to which players can be judged as "this is who he is" and who should get more development time. Ashtyn Davis for example. I think he's garbage and that still never change.
