Adam_Schefter Reports are that Ravens CB Dominique Foxworth tore his ACL and is out for the year, which is a major injury for a team short on CBs
Damn, that's a huge loss for them. Their secondary is in shambles right now. Lardarius Webb and Fabian Washington are both coming back from season-ending injuries. They lost Foxworth today and Ed Reed will probably spend the first six weeks of the season on the PUP. That leaves Walt Harris, Chris Carr, and Travis Fisher...that sucks. I just looked up their previous injuries - it looks like Washington will be inactive for most of camp, but he should be okay to start the season. Webb will be out for quite some time. He'll probably miss the first couple weeks of the season. The Jets and Mark Sanchez are in a great position now - the Ravens' secondary has become swiss cheese.
This will make us miss Holmes less for the first game. I wouldn't wish injury though and that really sucks for Foxworth and the Ravens.
Mark Sanchez should be the one that has a field day against them. Keller, Coles, Cotchery, and Edwards should open all over the field. As much as I like Tommy Zbikowski, it's going to be hard as hell for him to match up on Dustin Keller.
Ouch, that sucks for them, they're probably gonna get into a fair amount of shoot outs this season Flacco better be up to the task
Well yeah, he's in line to have a monster game, but I'm expecting Edwards to have a breakout game. Cotch and Coles will be solid and Keller had a stretch last season where he just seemed to drop everything, but I think he'll eventually get it together. Edwards is the one I'm still a bit leery abt.
Keller down the seams, Cotchery with those beautiful sideline passes, Braylon with the big plays and catches ... quick slants with Coles ... we need to take advantage of this "opportunity" Let's hope Sanchez has his regular season coming out party and does work to this Ravens secondary
I want the Jets to set the tone with this game. If given the opportunity, Rex Ryan will run up the score to make a statement.
Joe Flacco is mediocre-at-best. With a banged up secondary, the defense will take a big step back and they won't be able to play with a clock control mentality anymore. They've got some decent weapons on offense and an extremely talented multi-purpose back...but in my opinion, Joe Flacco isn't good enough to keep them in high scoring games. If he's forced to throw the ball too much, he'll fail miserably. Last season, he showed horrible pocket presence and very shaky accuracy.
I don't doubt we'll have Coles as a slot receiver most of the time, but I'd prefer to see him opposite Edwards at times with Cotch in the slot, especially with Keller going down the seams. Even tho Sanchez is more precise with his passes and won't leave Coles exposed to get crushed by LBs, I'd still like for us to have him last us at least up until Week 5. I would hate to see Coles get Chrebet-ed.
The atmosphere is going to be crazy as it is, like Week 17 vs. Cinci times ten. If Mark's running on all cylinders against this secondary it could end up looking like a bad college game. Yeah I agree this has to be a statement game. Beat them, kick them when they're down, and dance on their grave on national television.
I'm not sure if that's Rex's style. I'm sure he'd take a blowout win with a smile, and harp abt it in the post-game press conference, but I'm not too sure he'll run up the score on purpose. I'm sure he's pissed that they passed him over in B-more for the HC job, but that gave him the opportunity to coach his father's Jets. I still believe he likes the Ravens as a team and an organization deep down inside to embarrass them like that. But this is Rex we're talking abt, so I could be wrong. Who knows.
The Ravens GM is going to have to make a trade for a CB. For a team expecting to go all the way, and with an already THIN CB corps this is awful for them. They will prob try to snag a Bills CB.
Man, the Ravens have had about everything go wrong that possibly could in the past few weeks. Suddenly the Bengals may be the frontrunner in that division again. If the Steelers can manage not to shit the bed too bad with Ben out, they aren't in a terrible spot either.
A great front 7 can cover a lot of problems in the secondary, and the Ravens have just that. They'll definitely suffer a bit for having this many secondary injuries but not quite as much as you'd expect from a list like that. Either way, if the Ravens can get to Sanchez, then it doesn't matter if they have Otis Smith off of retirement out there. I expect the Jets to still stick to the ground despite the injuries... at least while the game is close.
