I figure we will draft a WR/TE and OG very high. This list is based on that direction. Also, any depth or hole fillers available are because they are getting older. So don't dog a choice just on age, because if they were younger, they wouldn't be available.. WR: We will draft one or a pass catching TE, so take away Santonio and add this guy. Julian Edelman - I said this last year and with his great season he will want a real contract and not that one year deal the Pats gave him. A cheap man’s Welker and would piss NE fans off too. This guy caught 105 passes last year and can return punts/kickoffs. OG: Willie Colon: Resign, he is dependable and would be cheaper than most options out there. We will address the other guard spot in the draft again. RT: Austin Howard – Resign or bring in option #2 for a stop gap. Michael Oher – As a RT he is still god enough and shouldn't cost as much as the young Howard might ask for. OLB: Calvin Pace: he played pretty good last year and was very affordable. He knows our defense and is still a top five FA OLB on the market. CB: (Cromartie will be gone, he is costing too much.) Sam Shields – Still young and shouldn’t demand top dollar. Could get for around $5-$6M a year, which is cheap for a NFL starting CB. Hard hitter. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - Still young and shouldn’t demand top dollar either. Could get for around $5-$6M a year. He has great height and would replace our current Cromartie nicely. Safety: (Dawan Landry had a solid year and should be brought back. But we need depth in case our young guys don't improve enough. These two would give depth at a cheap price.) Yeremiah Bell – Incredible tackler and should get for league minimum or close to it. James Ihedigbo – Also, knows our defense and played in Baltimore’s similar one. Way cheaper and had better overall stats last season than Byrd, Ward, Whitner and Bethea who make up the top four FA Safeties. No true home runs on this list, but a lot of depth and proven players for minimum cost. Could have six of these guys, one at each position and only cost around $15M for the lot on this years cap.
Ummm...Shields signed for nearly 10 million a year earlier today. I want no part of Bell and Ihedigbo again as they are barely backup quality. I'm all for signing Pace, Colon, and Howard. Wonder what Rodgers-Cromartie will want but it's probably around 8 million a year. Rather have Verner if we'll invest in a corner
Shields resigned with GB. I would want Jon Asamoah - OG Emmanuel Sanders or Golden Tate - WR Alterraun Verner and Jairus Bryd interest me as well
Lol Colon will be released, per sources inside Jets, Shields has been resigned, Patriots are in talks to resign Edelman, and Cromartie is trying to get restructured per Jets sources. This is terrible. If this happened, which it most definitely won't, I'd be so pissed
Colon was only signed for a year...so he can't be released, he becomes a free agent automatically. Edelman is an interesting option though as he can return punts well and proved to be a legit receiver last year. Patriots have been letting him rot behind Welker for years
By released I meant let go. They are letting him hit free agency. And the Patriots are in active contract talks with Edelman.
Sanders is a must have I think he is a very intriguing players and would be a great #2 to start opposite our rookie and Kerley who is a very good reciever. Everyone is saying they are similar just because their size and the slot tag they get but Sanders produced last year for Pitt and can maybe even be a #1 because hes hitting his prime right now. He is my top priority. Byrd is great and expensive but worth it. Imagine if Milliner plays like he did at the end of the season and Allen keeps improving and Cro or another top 5 FA CB (Davis, Verner, Talib, DRC or Munnerlyn) our D is set for a while and will be almost impossible to score on. With our strong front 7 (minus one OLB spot) and then these additions to our dbs we are deadily and Byrd will be the centerpiece. He's the Ed Reed (who will also resign to be more of a coach) Rex had in Baltimore. Him and top cb fa our priority 3 and 4 Asamoah, Beadle or Shwartz are the next if we can get our oline back to where it was a few years ago Ivory will rush for 1000 yds easiy and Geno will finally have time in the pocket to do what he does best the deep ball. OG is a big need for this line My wish list for FA Sanders Byrd Verner (dont overpay) or Munnerlyn Asamoah
I would add Talib to the list if for nothing else he proved to be the lynchpin in the Patsies D last year. He has a lot of baggage (injuries and suspensions) but he's one hell of a shutdown corner. If he can help our D while at the same time degrade the Patsies it seems like a win win.
