If you look at those 2 good drives we had in the second half, clearly a lot of Broncos were going down and causing injury timeouts. IDK if they showed this on TV but at least 3 times, the person got up and a teammate told him to go back down. I'm not sure how many injury timeouts there were during that time, but I think it was 5-6 at least. Me and a few of the guys around me were talking, and decided it was strategy used by the Broncos. The Jets love the mythotical drives when they get into a rhythm...we lead the league in 5 minute drives. So, my theory is they were going down just to disrupt our rhythm. Thoughts?
I was thinking the same (watching at home) I also was extremely puzzled why the refs let the clock run from about 3:50 to 3:20 after the Jets ran up to LOS for 1st and goal but could not get off play because of a Bronco down, and trainers were on the field. Granted it was "too little too late" time by then, but still ...
I wonder if there is precendent for this? Can the NFL look into this and do something about it? Maybe cost Denver a pick?
No doubt. Shannahan is a weasle. Desperate for a win against a great team, he decides to cheat. Glad there were officials there. What were they thinking. There's no doubt that everyone around the league is aware of this Shannanagan.
The officials calling this game seemed very confused and disorganized. How many flags were thrown down and then picked up, how many times did they have to huddle before making a call, how often did they fail to stop and start the game clock promptly?
It saddens me that the media just ignored it. NBC made zero mention of it. If NBC had shown the plays, then shown the players laughing on the sidelines afterwards, there'd at least be anger over it.
I think after 2 "injuries" you should be forced to use your own Timeout... I was calling bullshit at how they kept laying on the ground...Then in 2 plays they're back in.
They should forfeit the game if indeed it is proved they flopped multiple times. It's cheating--and I would say that about any team that would do it--Jets involved or not. I hope the press runs with this story.
The game wasn't really close enough for this to matter. The game was lost when our DLine couldn't beat their OLine. But Shanahan is clearly a tool.
Good job bringing it up cause i noticed that a few times today. They needed to be grimey to win. To bad.
I disagree. It worked to perfection when the Jets were about to make it 27-21. Who knows what would have happened if they would have scored. The fake injuries worked, it was a still a 10 point game after that.
This was brought up many times in the game thread, and there's no doubt it happened (whether it would have affected the final result, who knows - the Jets were absolutely pathetic in the red zone all day). I do wonder if this might ultimately lead to a rule change that says that after a certain number of these, a team must either take a timeout, or the player is not allowed to re-enter the game.
They (the team w/ the fake injury) should be forced to keep their same players in and if it happens again, then start costing them timeouts... or maybe, like in soccer, they just have to lay there and their team play w/ 10.... that was so obvious it was nauseating.
Do you guys seriously believe this? If Shanahan had this grand strategy in mind, why we would he use it when he's up by 10 in a game his team is pretty much dominating? Obviously, such a tactic could only be used at most once a year, so he just blew any opportunity to ever use it in the future if you guys are right. Plus, it was stopping the clock.
If there was a game when he needed to use it... for the Broncos... yesterday against the Jets was the day. They needed the win more than we did, they know Brett could easily muster up a comeback, and while they were dominating, they really didn't bag the game until the end.
He saw the rhythm that Favre and the O was getting into. And I know for certain that the clock kept running on one of the injuries. They, the officials, stopped it only 20 sec after the player was obviously down. That adds up plus the whole hurry up was killed. Personally, I think Mike Shannahan is a sleazy guy. The kind of cowboy who will do any thing to win. JUst my opinion on the man himself.
