First of all, it's not Rex's place to get involved in contract negotiations, twitter, or any other bullshit like that.

And secondly, Rex has put his foot down. He got involved when Revis didn't practice and he handled the situation perfectly. Rex Ryan is the reason Darrelle Revis won't hold out of training camp.

My god, the Revis-hate on this site is reaching unspeakable levels. I'm all for containing Revis' contract, but I certainly never advocated hating the best player on our football team.

I smell fair-weather fans. If you Revis-haters had been Jets fans for a decade or longer (fuck that- for three years or longer), you'd feel a little more gratitude for the man. I don't like Darrelle Revis' approach to this situation, but I am fundamentally grateful the Jets have a situation like this to deal with at all.

I've been a Jets fan for 45 years and have seen many players go because of contract disputes - some worth losing (Keyshawn Johnson, Baker) and some not (Riggins, Biggs). Revis is acting like a complete selfish jerk. There is no other way to spin it. I don't hate him, but I do not like the way he is treating these contract negotiations. I appreciate his talents, but I don't appreciate his attitude. I know that Jets fans have been waiting for top level talent for a while, but we don't need this greed and me me me stuff on top of it. In the end, it could bring down the team. Why does Revis feel the need to try to publicly embarass the Jets?

So now when fans don't like the way a player is handling himself they're not true fans?

Sorry but you can't judge fandom on that, its been going on forever. Brick wanted a new deal, got one and he was a class act.

Disagreeing with a players actions has nothing to do with the love of the team. If you look at the bigger picture it might be just the opposite. Unless you became a Jet fan solely for revis being here.

Its not hate, its disappointment, that he is taking this approach. I personally want my star player to be a class act and a team player. Looks like Sanchez is that guy, but Revis is ME ME ME. That has nothing to do with being a Jets fan, its just speaking the truth.

I've been a fan for about 20 years (I'm 24). Just because he's the best player on the team, doesn't mean you are supposed to have blind love for the guy. People act that Revis can't do no wrong.

That's not what I said. I, in fact, don't like the way this particular player is handling himself. I think he's handling this situation rather poorly, thanks in very, very large part to mentors, agents, managers and former players advising him.

You alluded to the bigger picture, and that's what I'm pretty sure I'm seeing. This man might be handling a business negotiation poorly, but the fact remains that someday, he might be one of the best NFL defenders ever. And he's on the fucking Jets. That's the bigger picture.

That's the issue I have with all the "screw this guy," "trade him," "he's an asshole" commentary. We have a chance to be truly elite, not in spite of the perceived "selfish player," but because of him. Turning on Revis because of a poorly handled contract negotiation is short-sighted.

I love how every fan hating on Revis right now is proving the rule that fans really hate players.

Why is he an asshole for saying that his current deal isn't close to what he is worth? Everyone here knows he's right about that one.

If anyone here was in a situation with that big of a discrepancy between what they're paid and what they deserve to be paid I highly doubt that their personal reactions would be any different.

The only reason it is this public is because the NY media is sticking microphones in Revis' face and constantly asking him about how he feels about being paid $14 million less than what he feels he deserves.

This is not the first time that a player has done this in the NFL and it won't be the last. This is pretty much SOP for a high-profile contract extension in this type of situation. This is what John Riggins' contract talks would have been like if he had an established media presence as massive as today's along with Twitter, Facebook, the blogosphere and every other asshole with a laptop and a smartphone as an outlet for his frustrations.

Oh, is this going to be part of your "I know what Revis should have done with his rookie contract money" speech? You realize that that type of support doesn't end after you buy a family member a house, right? Because the person who couldn't afford to buy the house in the first place probably cannot afford the taxes on the house, or the furniture to fill it, or probably needs help with the upkeep?

Wow. Did you take into account what I was responding to?

So Revis has to pay for every fuckin' thing? He has to work for his mom the rest of his life?
You apparently know how it works in the hood. Maybe that's the ridiculous way of it.
    Silly me.
I thought Revis could buy his mom a house. When I wrote all of that, the assumption on your part should have meant more than just the house itself, but also the furnishings. As for upkeep, taxes and everything else- yeah, the mom should take care of that. Get a fuckin' job. I don't think Revis bought a house for his mom next door to Tiger Woods. He probably got her out of the hood and into a nice suburb. Is his mom an invalid or something? She can't get a job?

You went to Pitt, right? Is that what this is about? Defending Pitt?

I'm sorry, all the bitching just runs together.

Yea, that's exactly what he's thinking about right now, "When is that fucking bitch going to get off of her lazy ass?"

The guy wants to make sure that the woman who raised him and did everything she could to protect him from the massive amount of crime, drugs and gangs that tears down young men in Aliquippa, PA on a minute-by-minute basis never has to worry about her home again. How can you even begin to criticize someone about that? Unless you're just fueling off of the normal fan-to-player jealousy because you weren't blessed enough with athletic talent.

Most important player on this defense. Arguably the best defender in the league. Deserves a lot more money than he is scheduled to make. Those points are what this is about.

Is the fact that Revis played for my Alma Mater the reason that he is my hands-down favorite player? Yes.

However, I would have the exact same opinion about his contract situation as I do right now if he played for West Virginia. Don't even try to throw that bullshit into it.

hi, long time reader, first time poster.

I very much hope that Revis gets a deal done soon. A player of Revis' caliber doesn't come along often. He is invaluable and irreplaceable.

here's a silly conspiracy theory a friend told me:

maybe Revis will only hold out through the first episode of Hard Knocks. The hold-out thing is just an agreed-upon secret publicity stunt to increase attention for the show and for the Jets.

Do you really read my posts? Based upon your response I would conclude that you do not.

I am not opposed to Revis holding out.
I am not opposed to Revis trying to get more money.
Those two statements should basically remove me from the "normal fan-to-player jealousy..."

What I am annoyed with is the idea that Revis already made millions of dollars but that apparently wasn't enough to put his mother into a nice, suburban home. What's he been spending his money on? A roof over his mom's head should have been the first thing.

We are talking about Revis here. He's already among the higher paid players on the team. What about Sione Pouha's mom? What about Westerman's mom? What about Clowney's mom? Not enough athletic ability there. Sorry, other Jets moms. You're out of luck.

It explains why you are so over-the-top defensive about the whole thing. If you actually calmed down and truly read what I wrote...

Ahh, fuck it. Let's go bowling.

Revis WILL get signed. He's being a baby about it and talking too much, but it will get done. There's no way the F.O is going to let him go.

I keep reading posts like this on here and I am just trying to figure out if people are being sarcastic or not.
Have any of you been to Aliquippa?
Where I live now, I consider a quiet, semi rural area with low crime and the crime rate here is higher than Aliquippa.
I am sure there was some crime and drugs around and the family may not have had much money but lets not try and make it out as if he grew up in Cabrini Green or East NY.

I wouldn't go to Aliquippa and my first apartment in Pittsburgh was two blocks outside of Homewood.

The place is a hole. I'm probably exaggerating the crime rate but aside from that and high school sports, there isn't much there.
