Double up Moss with Cro and safety, put Revis on Welker all game long, that should be the setup right there. Brady throws at Welker more than Moss anyway.
Exactly, this view makes no sense whatsoever. It is easy to forget about Moss when you watch Welker catch 10-12 passes in a game but if you don't pay attention to him the damage can be a lot worse. Keep Revis on Moss.
I agree, Welker is the little engine that could for their offense. Stop him and Brady will fall apart. Just watch the Ravens-Pats playoff game for proof.
Revis on Moss. Wilson on Welker. Cromartie on the other guy, likely Brandon Tate. Wilson will get schooled some by Welker but he's not going to be overwhelmed the way he was by Boldin. He's the kind of nickel that you want on a small shifty slot receiver who has some speed and quickness. Don't get me wrong, it's quite possible that Welker will go 8-90-1 against Wilson but that's manageable. Watching Cromartie get burned by Moss down the field is probably not and we know Revis can contain Moss 1-on-1. When the Pats split Welker out wide the Jets can try Cromartie on him but I think that's still not a great matchup. The interesting question is what the Jets do if the Pats go 3 wide with Moss and Welker on the edges and Edelman in the slot. I could see that causing some issues.
Though I agree that putting Revis on their best receiver (Moss) is probably the right move I can't help but wonder if Cro has the size and thletic ability to do an ok job on him. If so that would free up Revis to play Welker. I don't care that Welker plays in the slot.
Just had an even better idea. Revis covers both Moss and Welker at the same time. I see no downside here.
well ... if you place revis on ww, most likely cro will have over the top safety help .. taking that safety with him .. so as we all know that on 3rd down for the most part rex is bringn the heat with Jleonard, and the other DBs .. Now, you gotta account for Julian E, Tate, Gronk, and Hernandez ... Who knows maybe Sexy Rexy doesn't even blitz Brady (I know) .. Overall it's gonna be a tough match up even after you take away Moss and Welker .. Pats got some bullets ..
Double up Moss with Cro and safety... that's a double team on Moss with a very athletic corner and another guy to help... Do you seriously trust any of our other corners on Welker after what just happened last night?! I rather have two guys on Moss and Revis on Welker.
Revis covers the best wide receiver on the field. For the Pats, that means Moss. It should have meant Boldin last night.
I've been advocating this for a while now. There is no way Cro is sticking with Welker - he is way too lanky and loses his feet too often (see Raven's game). You can try putting Wilson on him, but really we're just asking for trouble with that. The game plan should be Revis on Welker, Cro on Moss with safety help when possible, and run the damn ball to keep the Pat's offense off the field. We can risk giving up a deep throw here and there to Moss, more than we can allow WW to pick up 10-15yds 10+ times during the game. I'm kind of missing Strickland right about now, even with the injuries...
Would you rather be killed by 100 BB gun shots or 3 or 4 Shotgun shots Moss = instant big play over and over again Welker = small play to move the chains The reason Brady throws more to Welker is that Moss is a far more dangerous threat
Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com says he should be ready to go for this week. He was a game-time decision last week.
Many of you are forgetting about Leonhard and E. Smith. Both are very capable over-the-top safeties, if Cro gets burned.
My approach would take out both targets, in theory. The main question mark is can Safety + Cro neutralize Moss? If not, then that's sad for us.
