https://www.yahoo.com/now/tony-romo-believes-jets-zach-205516346.html Take it for what its worth, but its nice to hear a former NFL qb saying such big things. Personally being the pessimist I am, Im afraid Darnold, Mac Jones, or Daniel Jones will end up being better than Zac and I will have to hear about it the next 15 years.
I really liked it when Revis achieved greatness while everyone expected him to be a simply very good corner. It unfolded before our eyes and we got to experience it the right way. That Revis Victim List thread that ended up being converted to the Revis Island thread was epic. That was as much fun as I've had a a Jets fan in a lot of ways. Now everything needs to be sensationalized and predicted and bombarded with overanalysis before it even happens, to the point where if Zach Wilson does achieve greatness, how remarkable will it be? Everyone already jumped on the damn hype train in a race to predict the next Mahomes so if he does anything less than that he will be a disappointment to most, if you go by predictions. This stuff is just tedious and a distraction from actual content we could be reading about football, not football stratospheres and perceived potential.
The reason we are reading about perceived potential and not football is because the season hasn't started yet!
The thing is, more people will remember if you're right about predicting a player to be the next great thing than if you're wrong. Romo said something very similar about Darnold and it's rarely brought up. If Wilson becomes Mahomes-like (we're just not that blessed - we're Jets fans) it'll be rammed down our throats how right he is and how he's the GOAT at analyzing QB prospects. Mahomes is literally one of a kind and we might not ever see a quarterback with his talent fall into the perfect situation again like he did with Alex Smith as a gracious place holder, Andy Reid and a ready to win roster. Unfortunately, this is how media rolls in the US of A now in every aspect of life and it's trickled into sports media big time.
Hey, I'm not knocking you and honestly it's the second time I've seen it posted here and I didn't really think about commenting about it the first time around so I took this opportunity. There are a lot of things Tony Romo could be saying about Zach Wilson or football in general because his occupation is a football analyst, not an editorialist. Instead he latched into a hot buzz topic for easy clicks because the only reason he still exists in the NFL world is because he's Tony the Predictor, master of the quick-draw play callout. There's no other characteristic of his that would be compatible with being a TV personality, with his pinched face and squeaky voice and complete spazz routine. He's fulfilling his schtick, getting people talking about another patented Romo prediction. It's all wind.
Yeah... maybe. But he did play the game and was pretty good at it. I'd put more weight on what Romo has to say than most of the blowhards out there. But I do wish they'd shut the fuck up and let things develop organically... without setting dumb benchmarks. Besides... the comparison of Zach Wilson to Patrick Mahomes is just stupid. Zach is way better at the position...
Truly, I rather believe my own eyes after seeing a full season of Wilson. Romo, Chris Simms endorsement are good but let’s see him play first.
It would be nice if Zach Wilson gets to the point where people will say in the future 'This QB has the potential to be the next Zach Wilson'. But yeah, he was big on Darnold a while back and we saw how that turned out.
Just remember the KC Chiefs went from the early 1970's until 2017 without a QB any different than the Jets had, without a playoff history better than what the Jets had and could say they weren't that blessed until Mahomes broke out Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile...
Yeah of course. The Chiefs have also almost doubled our playoff appearances since 1990 and while they haven't had an ace at QB until Mahomes they've also managed to find three Hall of Fame coaches and build quality teams in all three decades going on four. We've been a gutter franchise for about half of the past thirty years.
The Chiefs have doubled our playoff appearances? The Jets have played in 14 playoff games since 1990 Chiefs have played in more due to their recent run. What does any of this have to due with going from 1974 to 2017 to find a QB.
Cowherd responds to Romo. While I detest Cowherd his point that we should not expect wilson to be a top 3 QB in the next few years is a valid point. After a brief period of walking back his anti-Wilson comments Cowherd has again realized that nothing gets more views than bashing the Jets. But, note this time he limits his Wilson bashing to solely lowering expectations of Wilson based on the Jets talent level and has not repeated his prior personal criticisms of Wilson. https://www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news/former-dallas-cowboys-tony-romo-jets-judgment-colin-cowherd-news
The Chiefs have been in the playoffs 14/28 years leading up to 2017. The Jets have been in 8/28. I said almost doubled. This has to do with the Chiefs being a much better run franchise that couldn't find a quarterback for a number of years. They've also had pockets of much better quarterback play than the Jets have from 74 on, including end of career Montana to Steve Bono, Grbac, Trent Green and into the Alex Smith years. Matt Cassell went to a Pro Bowl with them. Point is - better run franchises usually "luck" into a good quarterback than poorly run ones. The Lions walked into Stafford, by all accounts an elite prospect, and look how that turned out for them. I do believe Mahomes would've been a good player no matter where he went eventually. But the Chiefs made sure he was elite right away by sitting him down for a year just like the Jets should've done with Wilson and the Bears should do with Fields/49ers with Lance.
Our blind squirrels haven’t found that nut in over 50 years. that being said, I believe Zach is the real deal.
I One more time, What does any of this do with how hard it is to find a FQB? All I said its the Chiefs went from the 70' and Dawson to Mahomes.
