Robert Saleh, Joe Douglas and Nathaniel Hackett are likely all safe for 2024 — even as the #Jets seem to be getting worse. Aaron Rodgers is their lifeline. On the Rodgers of it all — and the risks of his potential return this season: https://t.co/3vBshaEO5Z — Zack Rosenblatt (@ZackBlatt) November 28, 2023
Not a surprise. I don't have much hope, but if Rodgers (even the 2022 form) is what we get next year, this should be a good team. For as disgusted as I am with this team now, with better QB play and a healthier OL, they're immediately a contender, maybe even despite their OC But JD should have a legitimate backup QB mandate for the offseason. Not Zach Wilson. Not Tim Boyle. And then ideally a rookie within the first three picks
The Jets reward ineptitude so this comes as no surprise. As long as the suckers keep filling MetLife stadium, there's no real pressure to win. This team MIGHT win one more game this year and add that to the Rodgers injury pass and you have your rationale behind this. Just another lost year in a long long line of lost years in JetLand.
Hackett just cannot be calling the plays next season. Either get rid of him or demote him. He is a horrible play caller. In fact, the whole conservative offensive philosophy is backwards. That's Saleh's responsibility and he better change the offense asap.
and if he doesn't, what happens? Nothing.. not a damn thing changes. Nothing EVER happens no matter how many games we lose. Now that Rodgers is running the offense, Hackett stays and the offense will continue to suck presumably until Kal EL is behind center again. Now if the team sucks again in '24, they'll use '23 as the excuse why they should be given '25 for one last run.
Can Rodgers stay healthy is the big question. They better improve the OL. That is a must no matter who the QB is. Find a legit backup as well. Someone like Tyrod Taylor or Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew. None of these are great QB's but they are decent backups who can manage the game. I am not worried about Wilson. No chance he is on the team next season.
The excuse will be Rodgers gets hurt again. Rodgers turns 40 this weekend and 41 in the 2024 season. He's been hurt 2 seasons in a row. Just dumb to hang the franchise on that old hat
It makes sense to me even if I don't love it. Feels like all of these guys will get next year. Right or wrong, they sold Woody on the idea of Rodgers with this team and that was gone after 4 offensive snaps this year. The mid-late season collapses the last 2 years have definitely soured me on Saleh a bit but he's also had Zach Wilson, a few games of Mike White, and Tim Boyle as his QBs during that time frame. I'm not sure there's a coach out there that could do much more with that level of QB play. All that being said, 2024 is make or break for everyone. Woody has said in the past that he doesn't do playoff mandates but it certainly feels like it's playoffs or bust for the entire organization next year. Heads will roll, as they should, if they don't end the playoff drought in 2024.
I just love how we are completely incapable of nuance as an organization. Rodgers getting hurt means everyone gets a pass. We act like it's not obvious that there are glaring problems with this team totally unrelated to Rodgers. Hackett is clearly awful, he gets a pass. Douglas has clearly failed the rebuild and is being bailed out by Rodgers, he gets a pass. We are totally incapable of isolating and assessing different aspects of the organization.
Rodgers is to Hackett as Peyton was to Gase. The OC doesn't matter when you have a HOF QB changing the play at the line 90% of the time. The real problems are going to be in 2025 or 2026 when Rodgers isn't here and Hackett still has his job while trying to develop a rookie QB.
Having Aaron back will solve a lot of ills. In the run-up to the last Bills game, a talking head said if the Jets Offense had scored the league avg in points, the Jets would be 27-3 over the previous 30 games. Winning solves everything. And if the Jets win with Rodgers, none of this will even be talked about. Saleh, JoeD, and maybe even Hackett will get nice fat extensions.
Where else can you sign up for a job where you actually get worse year by year, but don't get held accountable or fired? Asking for a friend.
We knew it, but is there anything official or is this just the reporter’s opinion? Also, he says “likely all safe”. Which is not a guarantee In any case, I do think this is the fastest path to winning though…if AR comes back next year, JD just needs to get two starting OTs and a WR2 and another WR2/WR3 type. I would find a way to keep Huff. Worst case you get AVT at G, Tippman at C, and can keep Tomlinson at the other G spot if you can’t find a better option. This is not impossible to do. It sucks not having a 2nd round pick but we have that. This is all doable though with free agency and the draft. Interesting thing will be to see where we end up drafting and if our first round pick is high enough and there is a QB there that makes sense, I know the pressure will be to just go get an OL, maybe trade out of that pick to a team that wants the QB and recoup the 2nd rounder or something like that, but I’m not sure I wouldn’t consider a QB there. AR has maybe 2 years left and Zach is not it and hopefully is no longer on our team, so we will need a QB…we still need OT and going all in with AR means drafting for that so OT or WR but still we DO need a QB
