NEW YORK -- The Sanchize has a new nickname: Captain Mark. New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will wear the captain's "C" on his jersey this season, coach Rex Ryan said Wednesday, because "he truly is our captain." Unlock HQ Video HQ video delivered by Akamai "I see the way the guys are around him," Ryan said. "This is really going to be his team. I'm not big on giving out those captain things, but we will put the `C' on his jersey this year." Ryan has traditionally alternated captains each week before games in his first two seasons, but said he'll have one each on offense, defense and special teams. On offense, "clearly it is Mark Sanchez and it is his team." "I really never knew the roster the way I know it now," Ryan said, "now being our third year here. And I'm really comfortable doing this now." Sanchez, entering his third season, has quickly earned the respect of his teammates with his work ethic and leadership abilities. He has helped lead the Jets to the AFC Championship Game in consecutive years and said Tuesday he'd be willing to restructure his contract if it helped the team land marquee free agents. "Am I trying to drive up the jersey sales for Sanchez? Maybe that's true," Ryan quipped. "But it is something I take seriously. I think he's earned that and I'm excited to see this young man grow." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...sanchize-to-you-ryan-anoints-jets-quarterback Atta Boy!
Good for Mark. 60% completion this year and taking the next step to the SB.......with the "C" on his chest.
The fact that he is getting it this year means and didnt get it last year means that he must have matured by leaps and bounds I'm looking forward to him making some post game speeches in the locker room and leading the "AND THE HOME OF THE JETS!" chants on SNY this year
Is this the TEAM Captain C or the Offensive captain C? Who would deserve team captain more than Mark? T. Rich coming back? I approve this message. Hi James lol.
-We've been to the playoffs during our first two years under Mark Sanchez. -We've made it to the AFC Championship Game during our first two years under Mark Sanchez. 1998 with Vinny under center was the last time the Jets made it to the AFCCG prior to Sanchez. -After only two seasons with the Jets, he already has more playoff wins than Joe Namath. 4-2 road playoff record. -In 2009, he took out QB's such as Palmer and Rivers before losing to Manning. Went 41/68, 539 yards, 60.3 CMP%, 4 TD's/2 INT's; QB rating of 92.7 -In 2010, he took out QB's such as Manning and Brady before losing to Roethlisberger. Went 54/89, 616 yards, 60.7 CMP%, 5 TD's/1 INT; QB rating of 95.5 The loses against the Colts and Steelers weren't his fault either, so I hope to never read post's such as Sanchez can't win the big game to advance to the super bowl. He played lights out against both the Steelers and Colts during both AFC Championship Games. He went 17/30, 257 yards, 56.7%, 2 TD's/1 INT with a QB rating of 93.3 against the Colts back in 2009. Against the Steelers Sanchez went 20/33, 233 yards, 60.6%, 2 TD's/0 INT's with a QB rating of 102.2 in Pittsburgh. Not even Tom Brady put up better numbers than Sanchez during his first two trips to the playoffs. Back in 2001 Brady only had a QB rating of 77.3. 1 TD/1 INT with 572 yards. Back in 2003 Brady only had a QB rating of 84.5. 5 TD's/2 INT's with 792 yards. Brady only played 1 road game during those 6 playoff games as well. Too bad he walked away with 2 rings. Our time will come under Sanchez. Am I saying that Sanchez is a better QB than Brady? Not at all. All I'm saying is that we drafted something extremely special in Mark Sanchez. We drafted a franchise QB and more importantly? We drafted a winner. He deserves that 'C' on his chest.
Well deserved by Mark and he has def come along way. I have grown to respect Sanchez more and more from his play in the 2nd half of the AFCCG, to organizing player workouts during the lockout, to being open to restructure his contract so the Jets can keep/add talent in FA. Some of the players noted that Mark's knowledge of the offense is vast and he was like a coach during "jets west" and the workouts in NJ. Rex has given Sanchez the keys to the franchise and told him it was his and he is ready to live up to expectations. I think he will have a breakout year and will lead the Jets to the superbowl, not be asked to be the reason why we don't get there.
