That's one way to actually change the "culture"... Reward people who WANT to be here (Wilson and Sauce). Well done.
Love it! We have now locked up two of our homegrown young cornerstone players…this is how you build a team And sure I get Sauce didn’t have a great year last year, but I’m thinking that was more an aberration based on what happened with the coaching staff…I’m willing to bet he comes back to form under AG and the new coaching staff This was a very good move…contracts like this always seem expensive but then in a year or two they seem like a bargain… We have had precious few great draft picks…you gotta lock up the ones you actually hit on And if our two young highly drafted tackles play up to their draft status, we will have several key foundation pieces with young players under contract Hoping JJ can come back strong but honestly that is a hard injury to come back from so we’ll have to see But I do like what Mougey has now gotten done…locking up great young talent…drafting OL…not sure of the back half of his first draft yet with the slower CB and the WR who has catching issues, but if they both can play, that’ll be a nice draft Anyway…I’m very happy we got two of our best young guys extended…
Massive 24 hours for this franchise. Two elite players locked up early. That says something about the culture and sends a great message moving forward. And they're ours until 2030 with no guaranteed money past 2028.
This is exactly what I was hoping for. Pay Wilson and Sauce early. In a few years these deals will look great.
Making a guy who can’t catch or tackle the highest paid cb in the league is the most moronic thing ever, but it’s the jets. I get the Garrett Wilson contract with a good qb he’s a top 10 wr but fuckn sauce who can’t tackle for his life or intercept the ball? What a sorry ass franchise. 60 mil for 2 players and still no plan to get a franchise qb in here, in a couple years both Garrett and sauce will be sick of losing and be demanding trades don’t think for a minute they will wanna be part of this sorry franchise if the losing culture don’t change even though they got the bag
Solid decision to extend both Sauce and Gardner. Good sign that this team will look to build from within rather than rely on overpriced, soon to be washed up, FAs.
Such a bad take I get that Sauce had a bad year last year, but he’s a solid #1 lockdown type CB…shit Revis, who was the best we’ve ever had at that spot, didn’t get a lot of picks either. It’s because his coverage was so good, QBs just stayed away from him. He erased his receiver from the board. Sauce is a different player, but his first couple years he was in that type of role…he locked his man down. Sure, could he be a better tackler? Yeah. But I can live with that if he locks down his guy consistently, and Sauce can do that. As to the QB plan, yeah we tried the AR thing and it flopped, and this year there weren’t very many good options…the free agent pool was not great…we probably got the best possible guy there (and I’m no Fields fan), but the other free agent options were guys like the Giants got in Russell or Winston…and the draft was not a great class either. I think the plan there is give Fields a shot and if he fails, we draft a QB from a better draft class next year. So yeah, this team has absolutely been a bag of shit in how the team is run, but these two deals are actually smart moves…young talented guys, home grown, etc. I’m the first guy to bag on the stupid decisions this team has made over and over and over, but for once I can see two moves from the team that actually make sense to me…
INT's In their first three seasons: Revis - 14 https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/ReviDa99.htm Gardner - 3 https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GardSa00.htm Come on.
Like I said…he’s not Revis But he’s very good You can bitch about “highest paid” and all that, but the going rate is what it is…Stingley just signed for similar numbers…that’s just the way it goes…it’s the highest paid today. Fine. In the next couple of years, others will surpass it. These deals always seem high at the time and a relative bargain a couple years down the line. Regardless, with both him and GW, we knew it would take large contracts to get them signed. Both rookies of the year, in Sauce’s case an All Pro in his pocket. If you’re going to argue that he’s not a very good CB because he doesn’t get picks, then have at it, but picks are not the whole story…he’s a lockdown type corner. I would love more picks as well, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a great CB… or put another way, I’d rather have him than not have him, even at this price, which locks him down in his prime for the next several years. Seriously, if you’re not paying these guys, who ARE you paying? And by the way, I LOVE your user name and agree with it 1000%
Clearly you don't, because there is a lot more involved at the CB position than getting picks. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-cornerback-rankings-top-32-ahead-of-2025-nfl-season I'm just hoping he plays more man to man this year.
Hopefully this is rewarding him for what Glenn sees from him in the future, because the dude was drinking too much of his own "sauce" since his breakout year....
I never said he wasn't very good. I would just think that the highest paid CB in history would be more of a proven commodity.
