This guy is just trying to make a name for himself. It's not a coincidence that this is happening during Super Bowl week. The NFL is a private entity, it's owner saw a problem with what one of the teams was doing, handed out a punishment, and moved on with it. I view this in the same way that I saw that "interest group" lawyer suing the Patriots on behalf of other fans.
He made a name for himself 30 years ago. I doubt that's his motivation. I for one want to see Goodell explain under oath why he destroyed the evidence.
1. The NFL, being a monopoly, is subject to gevernment supervision, much like Major League Baseball is. 2. I think this would be a huge waste of taxpayer money...but then, just about everything they do is, anyway. 3. Bring it on. I have no problem with an investigation.
He destroyed it because it indicated widespread and long-standing cheating over a significant period of time the publication of which would cast doubt on the legitimacy of not only a certain dynasty* but also the sport in general. Or maybe he just needed more room in his closet for his loafers.
I think we well hear something about this dynasty* years later....either spying or performance enhancing drugs IMO.
1. This is right on. They have exclusive antitrust exemptions and are subject to government supervision. 2. If the President can fly around on Air Force One on tax payers dollars to campaign for candidates then waste the money on this stuff too.
And you think this is unique to the Patriots? That is your jealousness and envy speaking. You wish your team afforded you all the opportunities to celebrate amongst fellow fans and attend Super Bowl parties and all the other fun stuff that goes along with it. Unfortunately you're a Jets fan and it's never gonna happen for you. Re-focus your passion and embrace the Yankees, or even now the Mets.
So, tell me why were the tapes destroyed? Actually it is unique to the Pats...because you guys were caught CHEATING. O thats right...i'm jealous.
I just listened to Arlen Spector (LOL make a name for himself, he made a name for himself before most Patriots fans were born) on the Dan Patrick Show, and if I were to guess who was pushing him to stick his nose into this, I would guess it's the Eagles. He said he read about the Spygate situation the week before the Pats-Eagles' game this season and that he would be curious to know if Goodell planned to investigate the Super Bowl against the Eagles where the Pats won by a margin of 3 points. Didn't mention any other teams during the interview but the Pats and the Eagles, and mentioned the Eagles at least 6 times.
Personally, I think this "investigation" is a waste of time, but your arrogance and pretentiousness certainly does reinforce why so many people despise the Patriots and their fans, something that was never true of dynasties like the 1980s 49ers. It was true of the 1970s Cowboys, of course, for the exact same reason - you know, that franchise that hasn't won a playoff game in 12 years? I'd be very careful making predictions about what is and isn't "gonna happen," especially since you have absolutely nothing to do with whether it does or doesn't, if I were you.
Well, as a Pats fan, I would welcome an investigation, wholeheartedly, come what may. I think it will never happen and is just political face time on TV, but if it does, it would make me very happy.
Well, I think you should take your elitist Patriots attitude and stuff it into your ass. You make me sick.
:rofl::rofl: Why is that..because I am not afraid of an investigation? What's to be afraid of? Worst case scenario, the investigation says "The Patriots Cheated", which is what all the haters think and believe anyway, so what's the downside? Best case scenario, the investigation shows that what the Patriots did was in no way unusual, that evidence comes to light of other teams' tactics as well, and an explanation is made that it was a simple rules violation, with no effect on the game. I really don't see a downside. An investigation can't hurt them, and can only help.
I am very curious as to what the NFL discovered once all the evidence was gathered. I found it very concerning that the NFL destroyed everything w/ little to no explanation as to what was found. Right or wrong, I believe the reason for this was to protect the integrity of the game and protect the league's longest standing dynasty from further contempt. I was rather surprised how quickly "Spygate" blew over, but I think the fact that the Pats have made it to the SB and are favored has kind of brought it back into the limelight. This specific notion if you will, seems kind of flimsy to me, but this type of stuff isn't going away anytime soon. I recently did some traveling away from the east coast, and it is unbelieveable how many people, people who dont even consider themselves football fans, dislike the Patriots and think everything theyve accomplished is tainted. The NFL's posterchild team drawing that type of reaction from the mainstream is not good for the overall product. A super bowl victory could bring the national media back into the fold, may corner goddell, and then things will get interesting.
