It’s so extremely frustrating and so Jets-y that we finally get the guy who so clearly has the ability to be a very good starting QB and we get him at age 21... and we waste the first two years of his career with a terrible OL, no one to make plays for him and shit coaching. I feel like we all thought this was a possibility the day we drafted him just because we’re the Jets... but probably thought no no, not this time. Welp. Here we are. The good news is Sam has so much talent waiting for be unlocked that some of it is just going to come naturally and he’ll overcome some obstacles. The bad news is that can only take him/us so far.
This x10000000. Douglas would have had the pick of the litter this offseason in terms of jobs he wanted. He wouldn’t have come to the Jets if he didn’t believe 14 was someone he could build a winner with.
The only reason people look at Allen and say he is better than Sam and has a brighter upside is because he was a top 5 fantasy football QB last season.
He also had a defense carry him to a winning season. Regardless he is just Tebow 2.0. He may improve a little but will never be a great qb.
Throws up a bit of an anomaly in the mid-range grouping, 9th best, there must be some really awful QB's at that distance, just seems really odd compared to the other two distances used.
IF Sam proves NOT to be a FQB, then replacing him by 2022 could be a godsend. The far WORSE scenario is if Sam is good (but not franchise good) and leads NY to 10 consecutive 8-8 seasons (ala Andy Dalton). So ya, I hope Sam is FQB good and leads us to multiple deep playoff runs. But if he's not, I hope he's gone by 2022. Anything in the middle would suck.
Yeah, but the problem with this thread is you make it sound like Sam is the problem or something is wrong with him. You started a sentence with "If Sam doesn't substantially improve this year " as if he has been terrible or something. He is a bright spot in an otherwise terrible team. He had mono, recovered, then finished the season going (6-2). Overall, the Jets were over .500 (7-6) with Sam. Can't substantially improve too much besides not getting mono. In fact, I would word it in the opposite way. Sam would have to get substantially worse this year for the Jets to even consider looking in another direction.
Yup. He ran for touchdowns and that looks flashy especially when you're taking big hits then getting up and celebrating. That Cowboys game where he fumbled the snap then got up and fell forward for the first down... that's when I knew he was the golden boy. No criticism would be allowed. I think he's better than Tebow but if you gave him an average defense, the Bills don't make the playoffs. I thought this too. I think maybe because most timing routes and slants happen in that mid range area? Designed passes to Singletary, slants to Beasley, etc. Either way, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know exactly what Allen is. This was the first thing I noticed back when I posted the first version of "Allen is a terrible thrower" from that same guy about a month back. Then you go watch Sam's highlight reel and he's making chicken salad out of chicken shit. So frustrating. But yea, the second his OL is below average he's going to struggle big time. Running away from pressure and taking big hits only works for so long.
Jesus most of those plays a backup qb or a guy in the park would make there was no defender nearby and he just over shot or under throws his targets by a mile. But he has more upside and talent than Sam hmmm lmaoo looks like he should be playing TE
After posting that I immediately thought of Beasley catching a lot in those areas like he helped Prescott as well.
I am looking for big progress from Sam Darnold in year 3 and I think the OP has legitimate concerns This is coming from someone who has been a fervent Sam supporter....the kid has First Round talent but I want to see a lot more consistency from him. We all must assume JD provides him with OL protection and WR talent for next Season...that's why I am expecting AT LEAST a WC appearance even with our so called insurmountable schedule especially with 6 slots available now. Chicago made it last Season and thank goodness we didn't draft Trubitsky lol Enough with the excuses guys, !!! whether Mike McCarthy or Gase is the Coach >>>>>Sam is responsible for overthrows underthrows and of course interceptions I am doubling down on the message of this Post...many of us are old and very tired of SOJs and I think both Gase and Sam have to go IF necessary . In all probably our "genius" Coach who calls plays that Darnold has to make good on or improvise is first to be let go. Currently this only speaks to Gase's failure as playcaller and Sam's natural ability to make good
What else could the kid possibly do? Handled an awful snap, got the ball out on time, right on target, and the other team ends up with it. I'm not saying he's never at fault, he absolutely has his moments but things like this just illustrate the bullshit he's had to deal with the last two years, mostly imposed by our own organization.
Nothing, that was the point of my post. What does it mean when someone says my heart bleeds for you? (one's) heart bleeds for (someone) One feels sorrow or sadness for someone who is experiencing hardships. You may have understood it is hard to know sometimes lol so sorry if I got it wrong
I thought that second read, that is why I slipped the last sentence in, cover my bases so to speak lol
No problem. The bottom line in all of this that we can all agree on is Josh Allen sucks and Sam Darnold doesn't.
