I like the things Slauson said. Specifically shedding light on the "deep ball". We will be stretching the field in this offense, despite the ground n pound philosophy. I also read in a seperate article that Slauson will be fully healed from surgery by August and that he is even trying to partake in May/June OTAs because he's ahead of schedule.

I also like the idea of using Tebow on special teams and as an H-back, etc. He is a versatile football player, he can do many things for us. He will also be a formidable presence in our prayer circle. Mods if you view this as Tebow Talk I apologize for posting it in the main forum.

I'm excited to see what Sparano has in store for this offense. I never felt Schotty played to Mark's strengths.
The idea of Tebow being used in different positions and rolls on ST is intriguing. You can't argue with his play making ability when the ball is in his hands.

Heh, with Tebow as the upback (guess that's what the personal protector is), when is an opposing team EVER going to feel safe when we're punting ?

I'm excited to see what the Jets offense looks like without a total jackass at Offensive Coordinator.

That was my thought. And we discussed it at work back when Rex made his "20 snaps" forecast. Four of five of those snaps might be punts.

So the Jets are installing TWO new offenses this year and playing a mediocre media freak at maybe three new positions.

I'm expecting this to work like a well-oiled clock right out of the gate.

Wow I didn't even think of what the mad scientist can draw up with Tebow on punt teams.

Westy must be chomping at the bit.

Agreed. The Jets might look like they have a plan and flow to offense this year

Ground and pound features deep passing. This is what Tebow excells at - watch the game video of the Pittsburgh Denver game to see how this offense works.

    The problems I see:
    1) Lack of a speedy WR. You need a WR who has speed to stretch the field deep. The Jets need to acquire a speedy WR. (Running opens up deep routes. Deep routes mean the defense can't stack the box and have an easy time stopping the run.)

    2) Lack of a solid back up RB. When you run a lot you need to give your back up running back a rest and injuries are also possible. Again the Jets better get one of these.

    3) To run hard an upgrade at RT might be important. A 330 lb roadgrader like Glenn might be a solution.

    4) Smith is an interesting experiment but this offense requires a proven RUN BLOCKING TE. If he can't cut it...

    5) I think it's silly to use Tebow on Special Teams even if Sanchez plays well and doesn't need to be replaced he could still get injured. Your back up QB should not be playing ST. Tebow gets injured on ST then what do you do when Sanchez gets injured a few minutes later. I would only use Tebow as a QB in Wildcat. Using him for blocking on ST or as an HBack is just allowing the opponents to take out your back up QB with a big hit and then the team is screwed.

You might have to wait a couple of seasons.

I most importantly like hearing H back and fullback when referring to tebow.

I think he has the potential to be a top player at either position if used right with some passing tds sprinkled in here and there.

But we all know were in for a circus.

I don't think it means that he's switching positions. I think he's got to be in there at other places in the formation in order for the occasional "switch" to work. They want the defense to not be sure why he's on the field.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he'll be catching passes or taking handoffs. I think he'll either be blocking, or switch to direct snap position.

You're misunderstanding. I first heard Mangina say (at the time of the trade) that he would put Tebow in as the personal protector on punt formations every time. The reason you do this is not because he's a great, useful personal protector. It's because every time he will be right there in a direct snap position, able to receive a snap for a fake punt play. Tebow could be a machine at picking up key first downs.

But in order for it to work, you have to put him out there every time, or else the defense knows when he comes in that it's a fake.

    this......

i would expect tebow in on many 4th down punts with the occasional fake sprinkled in there.....

would definitely create a nightmare for opposing coverages.

u can probably have several punt packages with tebow - and the opposing team dictating which of them to run, depending how they line up and with what personnel.

our 4th downs could be adventurous this year.

""The way we're going to be running things plays right into Mark's strengths, running the ball."

    That made me LOL.
