I think Pennington is out doing Clemens so far in camp. Now that Green Vs White is over and Penningtons team won, I'd say he has to be winning to this point. I know Green Vs White is not the Superbowl, but it's still a big deal I think, and did you read how Clemens was tossing one incomplete after another late in the game? He had that 1 50 yard bomb for the Td and that was it, if it's not Favre, it should be Pennington.
Didn't Ratliff lead the drive to the winning FG on Penningtons team? Isn't Pennington the veteran QB who you would expect to be much better early? Isn't Pennington not much better early but really playing not to lose while Clemens is still trying to get his feet under himself? Anyone who believes the first few practices mean much is in denial. What it does prove is that Mangini isn't as bright as we think.
So who's in the lead for the race for president right now? May as well just declare them the winner and save our selves the time involved to let it play out to the end no? I mean an early lead is every indication that you are bound to win every time.
I couldn't disagree with you more. Chad did ok. He managed the game. That's all he does. He MANAGES. We really need a QB that is a game breaker. Not a manager. And if you're gonna go by this scrimmage, maybe you should look a little closer than the obvious. Like the fact that Clemens' line broke down completely in the end, giving him no protection at all whatsoever, getting all kinds of penalties and his receivers dropped a ton of balls thrown to them. Clemens' receivers were a travesty in this practice. So what is it??? Is it the Pennington jersey you paid so much for that you don't want to go to waste? What is your reason for wanting Pennington? And do you realize that Favre, if he comes here and doesn't win it all this season, will retard our QB progress for a very long time to come? I don't get some of you guys. I mean, we can win with Pennington if every other facet of the team plays lights out. I understand that. But why should the team carry that burden, when in terms of a real QB, he doesn't carry his weight? He couldn't beat elite teams before the surgeries. Imagine now. And all this tweaking he has to do with his footwork, to gain more torque from his body, to get a little more power just to try and throw a 20 yard out, which he still can't do with any kind of real QB velocity... It's just too much. As far as I'm concerned Penny had his chance and unfortunately for one reason or another it passed him by and it's time for this team to move on. Lets see what we have with Clemens and lets move forward from there.
Sorry to rain on your parade, but Chad isn't winning anything. Clemens is losing it, thats about it. there is a huge difference in winning the QB battle, and being handed the position.
I don't think that the biggest take away was that Chad played better than Kellen. In point of fact that was not my interpretation at all. Kellen had dropped passes and OL breakdowns. The biggest take away for me is that Dustin Keller continues to be the real deal. I am now more convinced than ever that he will be the game breaker we all have been waiting for and in my book the rookie surprise of the year.
I have no dog in this fight......they both haven't proven anything this camp so far....lukewarm players that haven't established a thing to become the starter.
I think we were just saying the same thing. I agree with you that Chad is winning and barely. And I think if the status remains unchanged Clemens will start game 1.
Actually I do not think that Chad is winning at all. People are getting hung up on the interceptions in practices, but it was clear from the scrimmage that only Kellen is able to throw an out and stretch the defense which puts him AHEAD
Not everyone around here thinks he is so bright. As far as how the QBs look in TC, it's the same old same old. CP is definitely going to look more polished and confident out there in August, especially when he knows he won't be getting hit while he wears the red jersey. Some guys are workout warriors, who stand out in the weight room, but it doesnt always translate on to the field. Maybe some guys are TC Warriors, who manage to do fine in pre-season practices, but it doesnt necessarily translate to regular season competence. Looks like the NYJ are stuck on the recycled QB treadmill, unless: -someone breaks out and stands out as the summer progresses, or -the running game becomes dominant behind a rebuilt OL.
You are the one in denial. Wake up and face reality, everything and I mean everything we have seen so far says Chad should start, period. Let's keep the conversation to facts and not "what if Clemens is just getting his feet under him" statements Lets just keep a tab: - less int's 2 for CP 6 for KC - won the green/white scrimmage - every Jets beat writer who is at the practices says Chad is winning, including sites like Rotoworld and SI Granted its only been 10 days but come on, Chad is clearly outplaying KC. If you don't want Chad in at this point you can't logically say you want KC because so far based on FACTS what we have seen is CP>KC. There is no debating the facts so arguments about potential and making all the throws fall on deaf ears because that isn't what is happening in the practices so far.
I fully expect Kellen to pull away and then injure himself before week 1, leading to a pennington start, win over Miami and then the job is his to lose... :/
What all this discussion translates into is that we should be concerned about Mangini and Tannas competency. If we have spent so much in FA and assembled a pretty good team by all considered opinion and we doubt our QBs why didn't the front office push harder for a FA QB or go for Ryan in the draft? I would love to have Clemens beat out Chad but if he doesn't then he doesn't deserve the job. Lets be straight here, QB isn't going to be the deciding factor in us winning the division. Our run game is the key to the whole season and for that reason alone Chad, if he is the guy can drive this team.
