Carson Palmer will ask the Cincinnati Bengals to trade him and will contemplate retirement if he does not get his wish, according to several sources.

Palmer, the No. 1 overall pick by the Bengals in 2003, was unavailable for comment as he and his wife Shaelynn were awaiting the birth of their third child.

A Bengals spokesman had no comment. The team has Palmer under contract through 2014.

Palmer has become the object of fan frustration in the past two years and sources said he has grown frustrated with the team's inconsistencies. The Bengals finished 4-12 in 2010.

Sources familiar with Palmer's plan and mindset said he is financially secure for the rest of his life and willing to follow through and retire.

Several teams will be in the market for quarterbacks this off-season. Seattle will have an opening at quarterback if the Seahawks can't re-sign Matt Hasselbeck. Palmer won the Heisman Trophy for now-Seahawks coach Pete Carroll at USC in 2002. San Francisco, where his wife was raised, and Arizona could also be options.

Palmer suffered a major knee injury in a first-round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of the 2005 season. He also suffered an elbow injury in 2008 and considered Tommy John surgery before choosing to rehab without having the operation.

They won't be able to get a franchise QB with the 3rd round pick he brings in.

Vikings I could easily see taking him. They're going nowhere fast, but don't want to rebuild. He's the perfect QB for that situation.

Good news for the Bengals. Now they can get rid of him without any protests from fans or media.

I anticipate the Vikings will look at McNabb.

I could see Palmer in Miami on top of the others mentioned.

I could see him having a great year if he ends up in Minny.

The Bengals are a complete team of misfits, you could give them phillip rivers and theyll still be garbage

If the Vikings wanted a runner with an alright arm, they had a cheaper, younger option in Jackson.

The best situation for Palmer would be the Arizona Cardinals

Take away his name and he's barely backup material, IMO.

He grew tired of the teams inconsistencies?
Does he have any mirrors in his house?

This dickwad should just retire. All he's gonna is pump up the hopes of some NFC team's fanbase who've never really seen him play. Once they realize how bad he sucks they're gonna be miserable.

Unsurprising that he'd threaten retirement. People have always bent over backwards to appease him. In high school, a teammate's dad had to give his dad a job to keep him from moving out of Southern California after his sophomore year. Threatening to leave works well for him.

They can draft one with the 3rd overall pick that Carson Palmer earned this season.

McNabb wants to play for the Cardinals.

I'm almost positive a lot of his family lives in Arizona.

Wait a second, he thinks the Bengals would do him a favor by trading him? He has played like garbage for 2 years. They would be thrilled if someone took him and his awful contract so they can draft Gabbert...

Palmer sucks balls....has NEVER won a playoff game.

How some in the media still portray him as a top tier/elite QB is beyond me. He is total garbage.
