Here's the copy and paste: *** 2014 NFL Rank (Yards Gained): 22nd 2015 Offensive Coordinator: Chan Gailey Yes, we know what many of you are thinking. So stop. But it figures to be a different year for the always-interesting New York Jets, who were arguably the league’s busiest team this offseason thanks to new general manager Mike Maccagnan. Much-maligned quarterback Geno Smith could be primed for a very effective year, led by one of the league’s best and deepest ground game and a wide receiving corps that now includes former Pro Bowler Brandon Marshall. Smith has to hold up his end of the bargain and up his game as the Jets ranked dead last in the league in 2014 in passing yards per contest. In 32 outings with the club, he’s thrown 25 touchdowns passes and run for seven scores but he’s also committed 41 of the team’s 53 turnovers over that span. Of course, the team’s woes on offense extend beyond Smith’s tenure with the club. The Jets have scored fewer than 20 points in 29 of their last 48 games dating back to 2012. With running backs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Zac Stacy and Stevan Ridley in the fold and targets such as wideouts Eric Decker and Jeremy Kerley and second-year tight end Jace Amaro at his disposal, Smith is in a position to succeed. And don’t be surprised if he does
Almost nowhere to go for our offense but up. I know we were 22nd in the league, but it felt like 31st a lot of the time. I'm mostly trying to temper expectations with this team. We've had such a good off-season, I'm just trying not to get carried away with how the team could look until I see how they actually do look. I know we'll have a roller-coaster of a pre-season with everyone pulling out the Kleenex if Geno throws an INT during 7 on 7 drills or something, but we really should be so much better on offense this year, as long as the O-line stays healthy. Add that to how well-rounded we now are on defense, with a more accountable head coach, and we could finally spend a year that isn't sponsored by Pepto Bismol. In games where we had Kerley, we were pretty decent last year (at least in terms of record). If you consider adding Marshall, Kerley being healthy, and more options to throw to, we could actually become a respectable offense. I'm not expecting the 1999 Rams or anything, but it would be nice to line up for a 3rd & 6 every once in a while with a feeling like you could actually make it, or, scoring 28 points in a game like it wasn't hitting Powerball. I think it all comes down to Gailey doing a good job of fitting Geno's strengths. If he can do that, I think we'll be good this year. And if we suck out of the gate, over to Fitzpatrick and plan B.
Too early for me to buy. Where's the report on the OL? If we can solidfy the OL play, at G particularly, maybe see a Dozier, or one of the other young guys take a big step up, I'll bite. Geno behind a line that isn't top notch is a scary proposition at this point, for me anyway.
hard not to go up. we were pretty horrific last year. if not for an outstanding run game we'd probably have been the leagues 2nd or 3rd worst offense
Jets offense last year: Rushing #3 Passing #32 Red Zone #32 3 yards and a cloud of dust is not a recipe for success in today's NFL.
