Why do they keep starting Barlow. it seems like hes getting 35 yards every game and then against the jags 4 carries -1 yards. And what about Houston. He has a good game against the colts 12 carries for 49 yards and he only gets 2 carries in the next game. They should use a combo of Leon and Houston with Barlow down near the goal line. They should also give rashad moore some more playing time.

Cedric Houston didnt get any carries during the "next game" (Jax) because he s injured with a hyperetended knee...

Thats why Washington got the majority of the carries (23 for 101) and Barlow only got a few (4 for -1)

Barlow has been a very good goal line back (4 TDs), and thats what he is good for.

I am all for using Houston & Leon int he backfield (thunder & lightning), i've been saying that since the draft...

As for Rashad Moore, he got a decent amount of playing time

Leon should start, he is this team's best back and has a ton of talent, and he is very fast. Houston when he returns should split the carries with him.

I'm sorry, how many carries did Houston get against the Jags? I must've missed that. Did Mangini shove him out there on crutches when I wasn't looking?

I have no idea why they keep running Barlow as I stated in another post, he is SLOW and PLODDING and does too much dancing around dammit get to your assigned hole.

Houston is awful. At least Barlow is decent as a goal line back. I would stick with Washingon and draft a RB in the offseason.

how can you say Houston is awful? Out of all of our RBs, he has the best yard/carry average

    Cedric Houston | 4.2 ypc
    Leon Washington | 4.0 ypc
    Kevan Barlow | 2.6 ypc
    Derrick Blaylock | 1.8 ypc

Brad Smith has a 5.8 ypc average.

I totally agree. Why do the Jets keep getting off to slow starts? Maybe it's because Barlow is the principal ballcarrier starting each game. Then the Jets get to the 2nd quarter and Shottenheimer's seen enough and he starts mixing the other backs in.

The only game that Barlow wasn't the starting back was the first game against Tennessee. And surprise, that's the only game the Jets got a lead in.

Washington is clearly the class of this group with Houston as the #2.

Stop wasting possessions with Barlow in the backfield.

First of all, I never said Barlow should start, but he can at least punch it in the endzone, which Houston is terrible at. Also, it's easy to look at ypc, but you also have to take into account that Houston's would go down as the starting RB. He's only had 14 carries. By your reasoning Smith should be the starting RB with 5.8 ypc. Thanks for proving my point.

I wouldn't attribute the slow starts entirely to Barlow, but he is a huge part of it.

I love leon but I just dont think he's small frame can take the pounding of 20 carries for a season. I would start him but I think he is best served as a 3rd back Kevin Faulk type

barlow gets no blocking, he looks slow because hes trying to see if theres a hole and there never is so he has to smash into his lineman while theyre engaged.

im not calling him awesome, but its funny how people think hes horrible. houston ran all over the colts run d which is as bad as ours. barlow has looked mediocre until the redzone. as far as I'm concerned the only person who shouldnt be considered for carries is blaylock. other than that we'd need real run blocking to gauge the true abilities of the other backs before we go comparing them.

and houston wont be back for a few weeks. so hows about we just see what happens until then.

and leon will prove this yr if not next hes beyond kevin faulk. he'll fulfill faulks role at worst.

I would rather have a back that gets hurt on occassion but makes a difference, ala Brian Westbrook, then have nothing at all.

Barlow may be a decent back but he's yet to do much and right now he seems more like a "crutch" for Mangini then anything else. By that I mean he was brought in by Mangini to help the running game and he's sticking with Barlow even though Washington and Houston have shown to be better right now. Granted Houston is hurt now but when he actually was activated and playing he looked like our best RB right now in terms of total package.
