This is not news. He was a good college quarterback because he ran well. His skills don't translate to the NFL because he is too inaccurate and he is too short.
Yes. Tahj Blows hard. This is ok. Simms is #3 and Simms looked solid last game as a #3 QB. Boyd will be on Practice Squad or cut most likely.
Boyd sucking doesn't bother me. He was drafted to be a developmental player. Let's see how he looks this time next year.
Boyd was drafted because Rex got to know him because of his son playing at Clemson. The guy would have gone undrafted if it wasn't for Ryan. Let's hope that Rex isn't stupid enough to fight to keep this turd on the team for personal reasons. I like Rex, but I'd actually want him fired if he was that stupid.
He'll be delivering pizza this time next year. There's nothing wrong with giving him a shot, but he either has to show something or get cut... unless he can play cb.
I'm a bit worried, especially since he's a player's coach...but he seems to make the right decisions as of recent. Laron Landry, Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie...all of Rex's favorite guys they let walk. Either Rex has little power in personnel moves or he doesn't let his personal relationships get in the way.
Landry and Revis were money moves, if we had the money, they'd still be here. And they actually performed on the field, even Cro did well considering the injury he played with. We have to stop keeping players that suck, no matter how nice they are.
What's shocking is that we took Boyd over Jeff Janis, a 6'3 receiver that runs a 4.4 and would have made us all forget about Stephen Hill. http://www.packers.com/news-and-eve...ssive-TD/bdd62f3c-2cee-4dcc-acef-368238ff10e9 Janis, who was making his preseason debut, said the shallow cross was one of his favorite routes at Saginaw Valley State. He acknowledged that opponents probably aren’t aware of his speed and that will work to his advantage early, and it made his favorite route work like a charm. “I wouldn’t expect it to (work in the NFL), but luckily it did,” he said. On an afternoon when young receivers Kevin Dorsey andGerrard Sheppard both missed big-play opportunities, Janis cashed in and would appear to have vaulted himself into the lead for the No. 5 receiver spot, which could be the last one available.
If they keep Boyd and cut Sims, it would clearly show how much Rex sucks as a head coach. I would hope Rex isn't that stupid.
Tajh Boyd with his mobility and 'just ok' arm reminds me of another Clemson kid (btw, out of Yonkers, NY) by the name of Nealon Greene who at the time set Clemson school records for passing then followed it up with a sucessful stint in the CFL. I'm thinking Boyd's physical/skill package is better suited for the slightly more wide open spaces (and lower talent level) of the CFL.
Clearly was a product of Sammy Watkins....... he got his "shot", and probably gone before the season starts....
We don't need him to show something right now. We have Geno Vick and Simms. More than likely he'll be on the practice squad and they'll develop him and he'll get a chance to work out his issues.
Boyd isn't going to beat out Simms. And with all of the Jets draft choices who will be released (because they had so many this year-not sure why Idzik didn't package some of them so he could trade up) it's probably doubtful that he'll make the practice squad. To me if Boyd got a real chance to play in the NFL he would do alright but in a period of time. He's not going to get that opportunity like Geno did. So I could see him maybe going to the CFL and making a team there. Drew Willy was in Jets camp and couldn't make it but he now has a career in Canada.
Never fails, when discussing a late round Jets pick that will probably not make it, someone always always has to bring up some obscure 7th rounder that did well against the 3rd string D in another preseason game. He might make it as their #5 receiver, that is all. Try giving the actual writer credit too, Mike Spofford wrote most of your post.
