i didnt read it based on the posts... but in general I've heard good things about Simms...I don't like McElroy's mouth so I wouldnt mind Simms taking the spot if he plays evenly with McElroy TBH.
It an article saying McElroy should be in a 3 way battle for the starting qb position with Tebow and Sanchez.
Not clicking in. And I agree we should check out McElroy but only if we can get the rest of the NFL to only play their 2nd/3rd/4th stringers when we use him.
With so much salary going to Sanchez + Tebow, they'll both get multiple chances to re-assert themselves after failure. McElroy is just not gonna get a fair chance @ starting qb through open competition and it's a problem most young 2nd & 3rd string qb in the NFL have. Only way I can see McElroy getting a shot to start is if Sanchez & Tebow both get injured or the Jets have one of the worst records in NFL ending of the season with both Sanchez & Tebow blowing games all year.
I'd be less concerned about Tebow getting killed on some fluke running play if McElroy was getting some true first team reps and could go in as our #2 if needed. I'd feel better giving McElroy 4-8 first team snaps every practice especially when we're all hoping to get Mark and Tebow out there on the same play.
Tough situation. Normally I'd agree with your way of thinking but Sanchez himself is going to need more reps than a normal starter this preseason. Totally new system for himself and the entire offense (including an extremely inexperienced WR class) = we just don't know how long it'll take it to "click" for first stringers. Sanchez with more reps + enough reps to work out the backup = fewer reps than most teams normally give their 3rd stringer in pre-season. I think this is another reason Sparano has been so insistent on picking the pace to force the offense to run more plays.
With the new rules in the CBA and limits on practice, there aren't enough reps to begin with. No way is a #3 going to get many with the #1's.
i know i know. But the Jets are in a unique position where our #3 could become our #1 in a single play. Only a handful of teams put there #2 out there on special teams blowing up wedges or blasting through trench warfare for 6 points. Remember when Penny and our #2 went down in back to back plays? It weren't pretty....and by throwing Tebow to the wolves 20 snaps a game combined with the fact WFH is determined to get Sanchez killed makes our #3 almost as important as other team's #2. But as usual, Tanny will just hope for the best.
McElroy is a backup at best who I feel could hold down the forte if the starter gets hurt. That's it.
I can't believe that you of all people would post this. The fucking guy's arm is as weak as Pennington's.
You'd rather have Simms play than McElroy even if McElroy is the better player? I can't understand that kind of thinking.
